The Field Organizer acts as a key individual in building Audubon’s power and advancing the National Audubon Society’s conservation and policy priorities in Texas. S/he will be responsible for building volunteer leadership and mobilizing constituents in Audubon’s network (including chapter members, partners, and volunteers) to help further network engagement goals in the state. S/he is a highly energetic, adaptable, relationship-oriented, and a results-driven team player who effectively engages the Network in both action and advocacy using a variety of methods – from volunteer events to recruitment drives and phone banking. Additionally, the Field Organizer works closely with Audubon’s regional/state program leadership and staff to implement and facilitate best-in-class training for local supporters, thereby serving as the vital link in bringing Audubon’s ambitious conservation-focused strategic plan to life in communities from coast to coast and in making Audubon the most effective conservation network in America.

The Field Organizer will be based in Texas, ideally in close proximity to one of Audubon’s offices. Additionally, this role is grant-funded and anticipated to last three years, with the potential to continue pending funding and programmatic needs.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Build and deepen relationships with Audubon chapters, volunteer leaders, members, and other partners.
  • Focus on community-level implementation of local resolutions, proclamations, and/or campaigns as identified by the regional/state program leadership in partnership with the Network team.
  • Establish and build positive working relationships with Audubon’s state leadership and employees and leverage local knowledge, relationships and expertise to help meet objectives.
  • Develop deep understanding of Audubon’s Network and create positive, lasting relationships with Audubon chapters, volunteer leaders, and other partners in the state.
  • Continuously look for ways to expand the organization’s large community of supporters, volunteers, and partners through recruitment and partnership building as aligned with quarterly growth goals.
  • Provide best-in-class action and advocacy training to engaged individuals to empower volunteer leaders.
  • Coordinate and staff a variety of organizing activities, from volunteer days to phone banking events.
  • Work with volunteers and partners to raise the profile of Audubon’s work and mission in the community through presentations, earned media, and other outreach activities.
  • Deliver input from volunteers and partners to the Network Team and other Audubon leaders to help inform strategies.
  • Other responsibilities as appropriate and necessary to achieve objectives.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree
Skills/Experience: 
  • 2-3 years’ field organizing experience, including volunteer management, leading community events and training, and/or canvassing. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to build consensus among a wide range of individuals.  Comfort with presenting and engaging in public speaking events necessary.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to motivate volunteers and partners essential.
  • Experience working with diverse constituencies, including bipartisan coalitions and communities of color.
  • A self-starter, one who is motivated, able to work in a decentralized work environment with minimal supervision, and juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Strong problem solving skills, including ability to respond quickly and effectively to unforeseen challenges.
  • Effective listening, probing, and assessment skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and goals.
  • Strong commitment to conservation and climate solutions.
  • Tech-savvy, with proficiency in MS Office applications, campaign/advocacy tools (including CRM and voter files) and other online software.
  • Spanish-language proficiency a plus.
  • Willingness to travel across the assigned state, as well as throughout Audubon network, including the possibility of some regional or national travel. Must have a flexible approach to work, including comfort working evenings and weekends as the job responsibilities demand.
  • Demonstrated interest in conservation and commitment to the mission of the National Audubon Society.
