We need an individual who has a strong background in Personal Training to support a culture of excellence and quality as Director of Wellness and Personal Training.  This person should have experience as a Personal Trainer as well as experience supervising Personal Training staff. With 19 branches and 2 resident camps, the Dallas YMCA has a legacy of outstanding YMCA staff that set the national benchmarks in program innovation, fundraising and leadership development. 

The Director of Wellness and Personal Training leads the Association's strategy for health and wellness programming implemented by branches which includes group exercise and personal training which has a current budget responsibility of $1.7M. This person facilitates the improvement of the member experience based on member survey data as well as information from branch leaders and wellness and membership staff. The Director of Wellness and Personal Training seeks to improve the achievement of personal wellness goals expressed by members and partners with branch staff to improve member results.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • This position is responsible for the development of the Association's strategy for group exercise and personal training and the Association systems that support and track those activities.
  • Works closely with the Vice President of Membership and Wellness, branch Membership and Wellness Directors, the Associate Vice President of Marketing, and other key leaders to maximize member engagement and assist members to reach their health and wellness goals. Utilizes data to make improvements to the Association's approach to wellness and personal training based on member feedback.
  • Compiles association data from Association's systems and software to measure penetration of personal training sessions as well as group exercise participation. 
  • Uses data to help analyze personal trainer effectiveness and branch effectiveness at helping members and clients achieve their health and wellness goals.
  • The Association Director of Personal Training and Wellness also has the ability to coach personal trainers, Directors, instructors, and Coordinators to help a branch and our Association achieve group exercise and personal training growth. 
  • Supports the implementation of third party classes (Les Mills, Zumba, Jillian Michaels, Beachbody and others) in branches to enhance the member experience.
  • Creates strategies to continually increase the quality of group exercise classes and motivates instructors to exceed member expectations.
  • This position is responsible for monitoring the wellness center environments in branches to ensure they are welcoming places for current and prospective members as well as health seekers.
  • Incumbent should be highly organized and able to utilize formal and informal methods of communication with different stakeholder groups.
  • This person is a role model for developing relationships, interacting effectively with members, and different levels of staff.
  • Incumbent should have good presentation skills and be comfortable speaking in front of groups.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology preferred or equivalent in certification and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Four years related fitness industry experience. 
  • NCAA Accredited Personal Training Certification with a minimum of 2 years experience as a Personal Trainer and 2 years of experience supervising Personal Trainers.
  • Proven success as a supervisor onboarding and developing personal trainers.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in attracting and retaining members through relationship building and effective marketing strategies. 
  • Must have a keen business sense and understand the dynamics of human behavior change. 
  • The ideal candidate will have leadership experience as well as management skills.
  • Must be familiar with fitness trends and third-party vendors in the health and wellness industry.
  • Must have successful experience with budgeting and forecasting as well as building and growing personal training programs and revenue.
  • Experience in the business of personal training is a must. 
  • Candidate must be able to teach, demonstrate, and evaluate group exercise classes, instructors, personal training sessions, personal trainers, and various group exercise class formats as well as mentor instructors and Wellness Directors.

The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas offers a comprehensive Benefits Plan: Health, Dental, Vision, Long & Short Term Disability, 125 Medical & Dependent Care Reimbursement Plan, Employee Assistance Plan, Retirement 12% paid by the YMCA upon meeting eligibility requirements, and Paid Time Off (PTO).

Salary: $62,000.00 - $75,000.00
