Come to work for a cause-driven organization as an Aquatics Director and make a difference. This is a unique opportunity to implement and deliver YMCA Aquatics while rotating to different branches within the Dallas YMCA’s as needed. Under the direction of the AVP of Aquatics, the Aquatics Director will be responsible for learning how to implement and deliver YMCA Aquatics at small and large branches.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Train and shadow large and small branches to learn the management of aquatics operations. This includes but is not limited to policies and procedures, scheduling programs and participants, interviewing, hiring, scheduling and motivating employees, developing and engaging volunteers, parent and participant communication and meetings, creating and following budgets, communicating to other branch employees, learning and mastering programs for (a) point of sales, (b)budgeting, and (c) marketing. 

  • Support and assist with events such as Swimposiums, swim meets, Lonestar, and other Association aquatics functions.
  • Fill in as acting Aquatics Director when a position becomes vacant or when a branch is short Aquatics Coordinators.
  • Work collaboratively with other individuals and agencies. Seek out and participate in networking opportunities to increase program visibility and community awareness. 
  • Create safe and memorable experiences for participants, family members, and employees.
  • In collaboration with branch leadership, quickly identify, validate, and communicate plans for transitional support and continuous improvement to facilitate program effectiveness and change management.   
  • While at assigned branches you will learn how to perform needs assessments and identify relevant drivers of branch program performance. 
  • You will learn how all staff and volunteers are trained and supervised.
  • You will rotate to different branches within the Dallas Y Association as needed.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Strong working knowledge of the rules and fundamentals for assuring a safe aquatics environment and delivering impactful high quality aquatics programming.
  • Current lifeguard and swim lesson certifications from a nationally recognized organization highly preferred and is required within 60 days of hire.
  • Will be required to complete a YMCA lifeguard competency swim or hold a current lifeguard certification.
  • Broad knowledge of swim lesson program development, management, and water safety education delivery.
  • A cooperative spirit, committed to character development in promoting and demonstrating the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in dealing with staff, lay leaders, YMCA members, program participants and the public.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written. You should be able to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, members, and program participants. You should remember names of individuals and be physically able to move around the facility to supervise different aquatics events taking place at the same time. You should have exemplary customer service skills to communicate with all community participants and partners by phone, email, and in person. 
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • A passion for service, quality, and the pursuit of excellence are necessary. 
  • Ability and desire to work in an indoor and an outdoor aquatics environment.
  • Flexible schedule with availability to work evenings and some weekends.
  • Ability to stand and have the visual, hearing and physical dexterity to substitute lifeguard as needed from time to time.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
  • A current driver's license with acceptable record and vehicle liability insurance.
  • Requires travel within the Dallas Metroplex.
  • Complete trainings required to be an employee of the YMCA.
  • Associates Degree or a minimum of 1 year of aquatics leadership experience.
