TFA-DFW is seeking a Vice President, Corps Program to design and champion a forward-looking teacher-leadership development program that attracts and prepares educators for systems change in Dallas-Fort Worth.
The successful candidate will lead the review of what the complete teacher-leader journey should optimally be: what is the highest vision for program outcomes, what does the data inform that is needed, and what steps are most necessary to “win on”, so teachers are best equipped and future leaders supported. Through this review and design process, TFA-DFW under the leadership of the VP Corps Program will be creating the differentiated, specific vision for this region, laying out a scope and sequence, methods for assessment, and proposing an organizational structure to realize this vision.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the VP will have significant budget, staff and resources to design and lead the integrated corps programs. There are high expectations for this critical enterprise, that teacher-leaders report favorable results from their TFA experience, student performance consistently strengthens, and diversity, equity and inclusion are actively and intentionally integrated through the work.
Design, implement, and evaluate a cutting-edge, research-based program for new teacher development for around 300 teachers annually (approximately 40% of focus)
- Provide leadership for development, evaluation, and assessment of a new program for corps member development.
- Coordinate with National TFA and local, partnering Educator Preparation Programs (Southern Methodist and Texas Wesleyan Universities) to design, implement, and evaluate the program model.
- Commission and manage routine external studies to understand and articulate the impact of TFA corps members on student growth and achievement.
- Develop and maintain a syllabus that articulates and sequences key learning objectives for corps members that includes differentiation among matriculation, onboarding, summer institute, corps year one, and corps year two.
- Coordinate with the Alumni Program team to conduct longitudinal research to understand the impact and effectiveness of the corps program model on alumni impact over time.
Serve as key external figure for Teach For America in Dallas-Fort Worth (25%)
- Establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with local school districts, regional colleges/universities, PK-12 educational organizations, community agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Follow and participate in public policy conversations at the local district and state levels that could improve or impair our ability to operate.
- Champion TFA’s model and impact as a member of local advisory boards.
- Serve as an active and engaged member of the TFA-DFW community.
Lead the Corps Program team and serve as a member of the TFA-DFW Senior Leadership Team (25%)
- Directly manage two senior leaders who in turn have responsibility for 25 staff.
- Provide leadership and administration to all aspects of the Corps Program.
- Develop and manage annual Corps Program budget.
- Coordinate the ongoing development and implementation of a Corps Program strategic plan.
- Coordinate and advocate for Corps Program resources and initiatives within the organization as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
- Serve as an organization leader consulting on strategic direction, multi-year initiatives, organizational wide goals, and team culture.
- Recruit and retain Corps Program team members.
- Provide supervision and evaluation of Senior Managing Directors for Teacher Leadership Development and for Onboarding & Institute.
- Ensure the Corps Program team is in compliance with all internal policies as well as all local, state, and federal laws.
Other Responsibilities (10%)
- Staff large scale events and conferences, including some Saturdays.
- Operate with a deep commitment to our core values, including fostering a diverse movement by partnering with people in the communities that may offer differing perspectives such as parents, teachers, and school leaders.
- Own and support broader organizational priorities, including selecting new corps members, encouraging alumni and corps members to join our staff, and supporting regional initiatives.
Prior Experience
- Seven plus years of professional experience with successful outcomes is required. Past senior leadership in coordinating the work of multiple constituencies is desired.
Skills
- Knowledge of educational policy and trends, including teacher training, is desired. Demonstrated passion for the transformative power of education will be a key qualification for any applicant.
- Experience in pre-K thru 12 is desired.
- Experience coaching and developing educators through a lens of diversity and equity is desired.
