350.org’s Latin America is looking for an enthusiastic and diligent Brazil Country Team Leader! 

The Brazil Country Team Leader will manage the team based in the country, including Communications and Digital staff, in order to ensure that the team can efficiently plan, develop, monitor and evaluate campaigns, projects and activities performed on behalf of 350.org. The Country Team Leader's main roles include setting the political and organisational strategies and campaigns in the country, serve as country budget holder (thus, managing and tracking  budget execution), act as a spokesperson, provide liaison with the Latin America regional team and teams in other countries; prepare and submit proposals in proper moments to the diverse 350.org departments / teams.

This role offers a unique window into the inner workings of the organisation and the climate movement. It will be ideal for a highly organised, detail-oriented individual who has a strong interest in progressive social change and the way organisations work. The right candidate will be kind and approachable, and ready to take on challenges. They will be committed to their own well-being and the well-being of others, an excellent communicator, and able to function in a remote team that rarely meets in-person. They will have the ability to exercise discretion, maintain calm under pressure, and have strong prioritisation and time-management instincts.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Staff Management and Team Coordination

  • Manage full- and part-time staff and consultants comprising the Brazilian team, including performance appraisal
  • Lead regular virtual team meetings; support and plan annual face to face team retreats
  • Strengthen team structure, including coaching and training
  • Promote internal coordination and communication, striving to build a positive working culture in the team
  • Support team on engagement in the organisational changes and facilitate internal communications
  • Offer direct management and support to members of the team in the country to enable them to deliver to their full potential, including ensuring strong performance management
  • Promote and model a positive sustainable working culture in the team that provides a healthy work environment for all staff
  • Working with the other Latin America country-based and regional teams to jointly develop and implement 350 regional and global strategy to increase the scale, strength and effectiveness of the climate movement in the region

 Strategic and Institutional Roles

  • Identify, propose and establish partnership with other civil society and academic organisations for joint initiatives
  • Strengthen partnerships and collaboration with other movements working on phasing out fracking and fossil fuels
  • Facilitate country and regional involvement in agreed solidarity and global campaigns
  • Working with the other Latin America country-based and regional teams to jointly develop and implement 350 regional and global strategy to increase the scale, strength and effectiveness of the climate movement in the region
  • Represent country-based interests in organisational processes
  • Attend key national and subnational movement/political gatherings
  • Ensure national campaign stories are fed into regional and global communications and narrative
  • Respond as appropriate to reactive opportunities or flashpoint campaigns in the region
  • Communicate our regional work internally as well as externally through public speaking and written forms

 Business and Resource Management

  • Oversee operations, financial management, and compliance functions in the country in coordination with appropriate staff and vendors
  • Engage in governance functions as required
  • Identify and mitigate risks to programmes, staff, and partners
  • Manage the office space, facilities and associated expenses
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least five (5) years of experience with leading and executive roles, particularly in the non-profit sector and with strategic planning, staff and budget management, projects and campaigns, finance accountability, ideally in an international context
  • Comfortable working both independently and in teams, highly responsive, and able to lead initiatives as well as take direction from others
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of current political-economic realities and cultural diversity in the country
  • Embrace the principles of workplace justice, diversity, equity and inclusion and apply them to day-to-day work
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas in clear, concise terms (written and verbally)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to nurture partnerships
  • Proficient with virtual meeting technology, Google Drive and other online communications technologies
  • A commitment to your own personal growth and development
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese
  • Confidence in using internet-based software for calendaring/scheduling

Desired (but not required) skills and experiences

  • High level proficiency in Google Suite and Zoom Video Conferencing preferred
  • Has an interest in social and environmental justice issues, and/or experience working in international contexts across a variety of cultures
  • Communication skills in Spanish
  • A strong understanding of energy/climate trends at both a regional and international level
  • Experience of using digital tools for campaigns
  • Experience in remote work
