Come join the team that produces NPR’s afternoon flagship program, All Things Considered. From breaking news to long-form storytelling, we bring up-to-the-minute news coverage to our audience daily. If you are curious and love the adrenaline rush of a daily news broadcast, we want to hear from you.  As a producer at ATC, you plan and produce program material for the daily two-hour broadcast that’s timely, topical and reflects the interests of a diverse audience. You work in the studio and in the field with four of the best hosts in public radio. You report and write original stories and story elements. You use your journalism smarts to book guests who are at the heart of news. You contribute digital and social media content. You help decide the sound of the program while undertaking thoughtful daily and long-term projects. This position is based at NPR West in Culver City, California.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Edits tape and writes copy with minimal supervision and direction
  • Conceives of and executes signature segments for the show
  • Occasionally works in the field: planning, executing and traveling with reporters and hosts while producing key stories
  • Thoroughly prepares hosts on goal of interview and intended narrative arc, and assists in focusing/drafting their stories
  • Works proactively with Digital staff to ensure All Things Considereddevelops creative content across platforms
  • Responsible for editorial integrity and quality of air product, ensuring that all materials on air and online meet NPR standards and practices
  • Collaborates with show social media team and NPR Digital team to ensure show content is engaging digital audiences
  • Other duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent work experience
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least four years of experience as a reporter, producer or editor
  • Experience writing for radio and with audio production
  • Experience producing on digital audio workstations
  • Daily news experience with the ability to organize and disseminate information and to coordinate daily news coverage
  • Experience writing and editing under breaking news conditions
  • Expertise in producing features
  • Well-developed curiosity in a wide range of subjects
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours
  • Demonstrated ability to generate and execute complex, creative ideas
  • Strong oral communication skills 
  • Proven ability to consistently work well with others, demonstrating at all times respect for the diverse constituencies at NPR and within the public radio system
  • Ability and willingness to relocate. In the future, NPR may choose to transfer employees to other geographic locations. Severance provisions of the SAG-AFTRA collective bargaining agreement will apply should you choose not to accept a transfer.
