The Project Manager will be responsible for managing the implementation of projects for TNC’s urban conservation program, focusing on the Greater Miami region. This position will report to the Miami Cities Program Manager and assist in reaching ambitious goals set by the organization and the Florida Chapter. Current projects include:

  • advancing innovative urban water solutions incorporating green infrastructure along waterways in Miami,
  • advancing a more robust urban forest,
  • mapping existing green spaces and opportunities to restore underutilized open spaces,
  • developing sustainable growth measures to incorporate better connectivity that protect remaining open green spaces that encourage alternative transit systems and pedestrian corridors,

This position will work closely with local government partners, and leading institutions across Florida and the U.S., addressing a healthier and more resilient urban landscape.

Areas of Responsibility: 

The Project Manager will lead on project management deliverables, including oversight of project plans, construction documents, partnership agreements, and help develop budgets, metrics and schedules. They will critically assess project scope and objectives, ensuring risks and dependencies are addressed in the project plan in order to deliver successful project results. They will support the program manager in defining roles and responsibilities for team members, partners, and contractors in the identified goals, helping to support cost-effective and time-saving approaches. They will support local green job workforce opportunities and help in developing community partnerships that advance the Cities program mission to aid communities implementing nature-based solutions to address challenges associated with the urban environment such as climate change and stormwater. The Project Manager will monitor and measure project progress, conduct corrective actions as necessary, and help communicate project status information to stakeholders. They will perform risk management, issue resolution, and collaboratively solve complex problems. They will utilize project management methodologies and processes and ensure organizational standards are met. They will act as a resource to other staff and project managers as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE 

  • Act independently and in supervisor’s stead, as needed; exercise independent judgment to identify and solve problems;
  • Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information;
  • Manage project budgets and assist with budget development related to strategic projects;
  • Manage and implement multiple complex projects, including managing project teams and setting deadlines.
  • Travel occasionally, working long and flexible hours as needed;
  • Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain;
  • Work is diversified and may not always fall under established practices and guidelines; and
  • Work within scope of program’s strategic goals.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years related experience or equivalent combination;
Skills/Experience: 
  • 2 years of project management experience or 1 year acting as a project lead;
  • Completed coursework or other training on project management principles;
  • Experience in managing and tracking multiple projects;
  • Experience managing project teams and working with cross-functional staff;
  • Experience managing scheduling and financial aspects of small to large projects that range from short to long term; and
  • Experience using project management techniques and tools.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree
  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experiences are appreciated;
  • Ability to manage and implement complex processes;
  • Familiarity with GIS software
  • Experience supervising staff, interns and/or volunteers;
  • Proficiency in interpreting guidelines and manipulating, analyzing, and interpreting data;
  • Certification in project management;
  • Strong communication and presentation skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to negotiate, influence, and persuade; and/or
  • Successful experience implementing strategic program goals.
  • Strong work ethic;
  • Successful track record working with sub-contractors, consultants;
  • Strong track record working with community partners, local government and agencies;
  • Experience working in the field, and being comfortable in the field and urban city, including on the water;
  • Experience managing workshops, and community led meetings and charrettes;
  • Experience working with GIS, mapping and modeling tools;
  • Knowledge of urban planning, smart growth and transit-oriented development policies; and
  • Knowledge of innovative financing tools.
