The Group Exercise Director is expected to provide leadership in the development, implementation, promotion, and administration of group exercise programs that are responsive to member needs; ensure staff excellence in service delivery to assure member retention, satisfaction and growth; manage all aspects of the group exercise program including, facility and equipment to promote a clean, safe and friendly environment; communicate and work cooperatively with the member service department to streamline communications and registrations for group exercise programs and special events; assure facility safety by monitoring and enforcing the risk management plan.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Manage the development, promotion and delivery of high-quality group and specialty exercise programs that meet the needs of the members. Ensure quality program delivery and effective use of resources including staff, volunteers, and equipment within established budget.
- Oversee the day to day operations of the group exercise program including hiring, scheduling, supervision,training, and evaluating of staff; ordering and maintenance of equipment; member communication; staff payroll, conducting staff meetings, and conducting program evaluations and reports.
- Manage the overall operations of the group exercise department including personnel to ensure effective and member-oriented work process: provide direction and training to staff.
- Ensure effective communication & implementation of program and service information to member services staff.
- Assist Senior Wellness Director and staff in providing high quality, customer service driven individual exercise classes and adult sports programming.
- Be a member/leader of the Group Exercise staff in providing high quality, customer service driven group exercise classes.
- Conduct group exercise staff meetings. Providing an agenda and submitting meeting minutes to the Senior Wellness Director.
- Teach at least 5 classes per week.
Educational Background:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology or related field, 3-5 years related experience in a health and fitness position.
Skills/Experience:
- CPR/AED, O2 and First Aid certification.
- National certifications in group exercise instruction and/or personal training. YMCA certifications within 6 months of hire, including Principles of Y Health and Fitness and YMCA Group Exercise Instructor.
- Supervisory experience with proven ability to manage successful programs.
- Physical stamina and ability to assist with resistance, flexibility and cardiovascular exercises.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
- Exhibit strong leadership skills; possess a passion for member service, building and maintaining a culture of member service excellence
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $30,300.00 - $38,800.00
