Position Overview: The Executive Director (ED) is the key management leader of the Whitemarsh Art Center. The ED is responsible for overseeing the Administration, Programs, and Strategic Plan of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, community outreach, and overseeing the art center’s relocation to a 10-acre historic site. This position reports directly to the Executive Board of Directors.
Responsibilities:
The Executive Director works closely with the working Board of Directors and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach.
Management & Financial
- Hire administrative staff and teachers
- Lead, coach, develop, supervise and retain qualified staff
- Sign notes, agreements and contracts on behalf of the organization
- Communicate with the Board of Directors on issues relating to the financial health and mission of the Whitemarsh Art Center
- Direct the operations and maintenance of the Art Center’s facilities
- Oversee the operations and logistics of both in-person and online classes
- Submit a monthly ED’s report to the Board of Directors no later than one week prior to the monthly board meetings
- Manage financial operations within the approved budget and promote positive growth, in accordance with the Whitemarsh Art Center’s Strategic Plan
- Work with Bookkeeper and Finance Committee to produce relevant reports for the Board of Directors
- Demonstrate a track record for fundraising, grant writing, and creating revenue-generating, sustainable programs, special events; experience with capital campaigns a plus
Operational & Strategic
- Fundraise through established and new events
- Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence in classes, exhibitions and special events with rigorous program evaluation
- Maintain and expand fundraising, communications, and systems with recommended timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals
- Communicate and collaborate regularly with the Board of Directors, Art Center committees and staff to support existing program operations and regional expansion
- Leverage and ensure established or new systems to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the Board, donors and other constituents
- Work with the Marketing Committee to design and enact strategic business plans for program expansion into new markets
- Work with the Development & EPE Committees to prospect, cultivate and steward individual donors, in addition to managing and expanding the organization’s institutional, corporate and government giving
- Work with the Chair of the Development & EPE Committees to conceptualize and put together an annual fundraising event
- Participate in the efforts of the Whitemarsh Art Center to manage and fundraise for a new Art Center building
- Continue the strong, ongoing partnership with Whitemarsh Township to ensure the Art Center is collaborative and compliant with all its activities and operations
- Build partnerships in new markets, establish relationships with donors, community groups, businesses and other cultural centers
- Promote the Art Center’s mission through attendance and support of Whitemarsh Art Center functions
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience of increasing responsibility in a senior management role at an arts or similar non-profit organization
- Self-starter who is comfortable working with a high degree of independence and accountability
- Fluency with Microsoft Office, Google Office Suite, Zoom, using the internet and Quickbooks / other professional financial accounting software and other modern technology (mobile phones, video and audio conferencing, etc.)
- Strong experience with fundraising and grant-writing
- Strong leadership skills and high personal integrity, with a dedication to transparency
- Knowledge of management and financial Key Performance Indicator (KPI) and Return On Investment
(ROI) measurements, or willingness to learn
- Comfortable with ambiguity and the ability to perform non-routine work with changing priorities
- Excellent delegation skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills when corresponding with or speaking to employees, the Board of Directors, members, volunteers and donors, with a strong attention to detail
- Embrace different points of view constructively, resolve conflicts, and bring cohesion to a wide array of stakeholders while interacting with them in a positive manner, treating them fairly, and listening carefully to what they have to say
- Strong passion for the arts and a vision to build and bring a wide variety of artistic endeavors and opportunities to the community
- Experience with social media marketing, Adobe Illustrator, and a basic graphics background preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
The salary range for this position is $40,560 - $45,500 per year based on experience. Job includes 6 weeks paid vacation. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
