The Controller will also oversee all accounting operations; be responsible for budget management, accounting analysis, forecasting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets and financial reporting. Key areas within the department also championed by the Controller will be policy and procedure compliance and ongoing maintenance of standard operating procedures.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Finance and Accounting Leadership

  • Manages all aspects of accounting operations, leading Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, Bank reconciliation, fundraising and grant accounting activities
  • Responsible for the General Ledger, maintaining internal controls and integration mappings
  • Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures
  • Coordinates the provision of information to auditors for the annual audit and 990 preparation
  • Ensures compliance with contracts, banking, state and federal regulatory requirements
  • Creates internal management reports that help leadership understand Association performance
  • Issue timely and complete financial statements including coordination for annual audit
  • Clearly communicates monthly and annual accounting close schedule and results to CFO
  • Partners with Business Intelligence to calculate and issue financial and operating metrics and support decision making for pricing, contract negotiations, and other matters
  • Supports CFO in managing the production of the annual budget and review of monthly forecasts
  • Supports CFO in assessing accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes
  • Other activities as assigned by the CFO

Team Leadership

  • Puts staff at the center of all we do, ensuring Association delivery of excellent financial customer service
  • Provides training and ensures open communication Association wide for finance and accounting touchpoints
  • Leads department staff, ensuring results by planning, coaching, monitoring, and appraising results
  • Supports CFO in defining roles and responsibilities and driving training in order to reach optimal individual and departmental goals
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) license required
  • Ideal candidate has 7 to 10 years of experience in accounting; minimum 3 years as a Controller
  • Excellent computer skills; experience in Microsoft Office Suite; SGA a plus, Daxko, Salesforce, Ceridian, database, or other system knowledge
  • Proficiency with accounting software required, experience with a software system implementation and mergers are preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state regulations
  • Able to work well with senior executives and team, as well as mentor/lead other team members
