Reporting to the Executive Director of the Grange Insurance Audubon Center the Outreach Coordinator will assist with community outreach activities including, but not limited to: marketing, promotion, event planning, fundraising, membership. S/he will be an important part of the team and will help position Grange Audubon as a leading center of nature and conservation education in Central Ohio. This position will partner with the Executive Director and Conservation and Outreach manager to promote Bird Friendly Communities, Plants for Birds, engaging and increasing the number of center visitors, members and donors; partnering with the Finance and Operations manager, s/he will assist with acknowledgements, gift processing, grant tracking, and data management. This position will require working weekend and evening hours as needed.
- Participate in the creation of an outreach plan to increase the visibility and reputation of the Center and to position it as a leader in conservation in central Ohio, including maintaining the website and other electronic means of communication, social media, brochures and other print materials.
- Assist with the coordination and execution of GIAC programs and events (e.g. Conservation Connections, Art at Audubon, Hikes).
- Support Outreach and Conservation Manager in maintaining existing relationships and forming new relationships with community groups, supporters, and potential program presenters, including speaking engagements at local organizations, tabling at community events, and attending relevant community meetings.
- With guidance from the Finance and Operations manager, manage the processing of gifts, acknowledgements, and memberships and appeals. Fill
- Develop a close working relationship with local Audubon members and chapters, and provide supporting services consistent with the policies and positions of the National Audubon Society.
- Maintain records related to all Center programming and events.
- Assist the Conservation and Outreach manager with aspects of social media and generating earned media through print stories and radio and TV interviews from outlets
- Work with Executive Director to identify and integrate fundraising opportunities through outreach work.
- Track progress of outreach goals and provide report on metrics, as requested.
- Assist in Center operations, financial operations, and other general duties as needed.
- 2-3 years' demonstrated experience working effectively with the public and with adults, children and families
- High level attention to detail and organization skills and ability to manage multiple projects
- Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel; experience creating marketing and promotional materials with Publisher or other software, a plus
- Experience developing and conducting education and outreach activities for all age groups and diverse audiences required
- Self-motivated, able to take initiative and creatively solve problems while maintaining strong communication with staff
- Demonstrated ability to maintain high level of confidentiality and exercise discretion and judgment in managing projects and handling requests for information
- Ideal candidates will have a passion for our natural world, a working knowledge of birds and native plants, and express a commitment to Audubon’s mission.
- Must have flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings and weekends, as required, and willingness to travel (within Ohio)
- Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver's license, or the ability to obtain one in a timely manner
