The YMCA has an exciting opening for a Health & Wellness Director. This dynamic position is responsible for planning and implementing high quality fitness programs which meet the diverse needs of the membership and the community. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Promote the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all job-related functions.
  • Promote the vision of the association’s Strategic Plan as it relates to Fitness/Health & Wellness.
  • Incorporates the facets of the Quality Initiative as it relates to Fitness/Health & Wellness.
  • Plans, promotes, implements, and evaluates programs for health and fitness (including water & land aerobics, martial arts, yoga, etc.), adult sports/leagues, and sports clinics.
  • Develops and monitors the annual budget for the fitness programs.
  • Ensures the fitness center, gymnasium and programs areas are clean, efficient, and free from safety hazards.
  • Coordinates building rentals for the gymnasium.
  • Incorporates member-service strategies into programs to ensure positive member recruitment and retention.
  • Evaluates fitness center equipment for routine maintenance, repair, and phase-out.
  • Makes recommendation on new equipment purchases.
  • Keeps up to date with industry trends to incorporate into fitness center and program operations.
  • Collects, on an ongoing basis, statistics on program areas for required reporting (i.e. United Way).
  • Serves as building supervisor (Domo coverage) on evenings and weekends as assigned.
  • Participates in branch and association-wide special events and trainings.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly supervises 6 to 20 employees in the Fitness/Health & Wellness Department.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the association’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in recreation, physical education or equivalent and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Passionate belief in the Y’s cause of nurturing the potential of all youth, supporting healthy living for all people and finding ways to help and support our neighbors.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenging situations. 
  • YMCA Team Leader certification; if not certified, must obtain certification within 12 months:
    • Team leader certification requires: Principles and Practices; Introduction to Volunteerism; Introduction to Leading Others; Introduction to Fiscal Management; Leadership competency assessment; Team Leader Certification Test.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00
