Assistant Aquatics Dir/Swim Coach

Under the Direction of the Aquatics Director in accordance with Branch Director/ CEO vision, the Assistant Aquatics Director/ Swim Coach will support the work of the Y, a leading non-profit committed to strengthening the community through Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. Oversees and maintains the successful creation of a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Promote the YMCA’s four core values – Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in all program activities.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Coordinate with the Aquatics Director to ensure all policies, procedures and Best Practices are executed at each YMCA Aquaticlocation.
  • Assist in the recruitment, hiring, training, development, and schedules personnel and volunteers as needed. Facilitates communication and provides leadership. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Ability to fill -in for any shift to ensure quality program standards aremet.
  • Knows, understands, and consistently applies and enforces all safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area with a courteous but firm and brief explanation realizing that any distraction could cost alife.
  • Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA Health and SafetyRegulations.
  • Coordinates with the Aquatics Director to maintain and control Program Budgets to meet fiscalobjectives.
  • Checks the pool for hazardous conditions, and coordinates cleaning and equipment maintenance schedules. Performs Chemical testing checks. And takes appropriate action as needed. Ensures accurate records of water chemical levels, and facility maintenance. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Departmentcode.
  • Must comply with all Child Safety by-laws concerning out-of-town trips andtransportation.
  • Effective communication with Parents and Swimmers is required. Professionalism is a must at alltimes.
  • Serves as the Head Coach for both YMCA Swim Teams. Communication with Aquatics Director is necessary for Program Success. Youth Barracudas and Masters Barracudas Swim team will function as 2 teams, under 1 association.
  • Directs and supervises swim team activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCAobjectives..
  • Develops strategies to motivate the Swim team and achieve goals Builds effective, authentic relationships with swimmersandparents;helpthemconnectwitheachotherandtheYMCA.Encourageparentalinvolvementand identify potentialvolunteers.
  • Coaches Swim Team in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared Workouts accordingly, and postsfor Swimmers and parents to see. Maintains records as required on a regular basis (attendance, times,etc.)
  • Conveys information on swim team programs and schedules and as appropriate, refers students and parentsto other Y programs. Communication with Swimmers and Parents is required. (verbal, email, text, social media, handouts, letters, office time,etc.)
  • Ensureswimteamisproperlyhandled&documentedwithotherorganizations,suchasGASwim,USASwimming, etc.
  • Coordinates with the Aquatics Director to assist with Swim Lessons, Swim Team Practices and Meets, and CertificationTrainings.
  • May conduct lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid, O2 and CPR training Certification Courses, asneeded.
  • Assists in Marketing and distributing of Program Information. Communicates Program Information with Department Staff and all other YMCA Departments. Must attend all YMCA meetings to ensure effectiveprogram knowledge and information iscommunicated.
  • Assists in YMCA fundraising, activities, Special Events, and scheduling Program Registrations alongside Aquatics Director
  • Is knowledgeable on YMCA Childcare/ Aquatics policies and applies Best Practices to Program Guidelines. Must adheretoYMCAprotocolonChildInteractionPolicy.WillUnderstandandimplementallPraesidiumGuidelinesas directed by Branch Director/CEO.
  • Exhibitsastyleofworkthatincludesapositiveattitude,cooperation,patience,flexibility,self-motivation,and professionalism.
  • Responsible for the overall appearance of PoolAreas.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timelymanner.
  • Responsible for gathering all information related to Aquatics environmentemergencies.
  • Responsiblefortheintakeofanymoney,intheformofdonations,programrevenue,orSwimduesanddeposits accordingly.
  • Compiles Program Statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation inPrograms.
  • Responsible for the overall appearance of YMCA representation while on Swim Meets or engaging in the Community.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in human services, recreation, business, or a related field or equivalent,preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • MUST be up-to-date on all Instructor Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen, lifeguarding, and Swim LessonInstructor.
  • 2 or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofitagency.
  • AbilitytodirectalllevelsofAquaticsat theYMCA.IncludingStaffdevelopment,monitoringofbudgets,marketing and public relations, and programmanagement.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with Swimming, Aquatics management, and diversepopulations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with communityorganizations.
  • YMCA Team leader or multi-team/Branch Leader certificationpreferred.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Hourly: $10.00 - $15.00
