Love what you do! The Columbia Y is seeking an experienced accountant to serve as Finance Director at the Association Office.

This position supports the work of the Columbia Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Finance Director intentionally fosters a culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined. The Finance Director also ensures a system of strong internal controls and fiscal soundness and provides direction and leadership for YMCA finance and business operations.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Manages and performs all functions of accounting and business operations, ensuring that legal and audit requirements are met, and that best practices and maximum efficiency are obtained.
  • Supports the annual budget process.
  • Hires, trains, and oversees assigned staff, providing direct supervision. Works cooperatively with all association office staff and branch staff.
  • Manages the annual independent audit, the preparation of financial statements and the IRS 990 tax form. Prepares or oversees the preparation of required audit schedules; maintains records; acts as liaison with audit team.
  • Implements appropriate systems and internal controls to adequately safeguard the YMCAs financial resources and to provide a solid basis for accurately reporting financial data.
  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of outside reports and filings.
  • Oversees the month-end and year-end closings.
  • Collects and maintains data on government contracts, contributions, and grants.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Three or more years of related experience in accounting.
  • Accounting experience in a nonprofit organization preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of, and expertise with, computerized accounting systems and standard business software.

Required Certifications

  • Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire (YMCA provided)
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid Certifications within 60 days of hire (YMCA provided)
