Hours: M-F, 9:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m., at least one evening per week; occasional weekend
Salary Range: $30,000-$35,000

Position Purpose

The Kids to Careers Specialist will design curriculum, develop content, recruit speakers and implement a program to provide youth with exposure to the variety of careers available within local businesses; help youth develop a voice about social issues/needs within the community encouraging them to take a lead in addressing those issues; and to ignite an entrepreneurial spirit within youth. The Kids to Careers Specialist will train adult volunteers to work with the youth; monitor the relationships between youth and volunteers; and will also serve as a liaison with other agency and community partners to ensure BBBS families have opportunities to access resources and skills to meet their needs.

Core Responsibilities
  • Design and implement an after school curriculum for youth facing adversity that will help them develop personal motivation and passion, planning and decision making skills, interpersonal and cultural competence, a sense of purpose and personal power while offering career exploration opportunities.
  • Develop content on identifying personal passion, developing a long range vision, setting/mapping goals, communicating effectively, using diversity as a strength, building leadership and entrepreneurial skills, and engaging the community.
  • Identify individuals and businesses with the skill sets to deliver Kids to Careers content and engage them with the program.
  • In cooperation with agency enrollment staff, identify adult volunteers to serve as mentors with each youth participant. Coordinate initial match meeting between youth and mentors.
  • Continually assess the match focusing on: child safety, match relationship development, positive youth development and volunteer satisfaction.
  • Provide information, training, services or referrals to families of youth and volunteers as needed.
  • Develop, promote and implement individual and group match activities to support ongoing volunteer involvement with the child and agency affiliation through individualized recognition, annual events, and reengagement strategies.
  • Effectively utilize online reporting systems and surveys to asses match impact and youth development.
  • Conduct exit interview with all parties at match closure. Assess reasons for match closure and re-match potential.
  • Share with Program Coordinator or Executive Director potential partnerships as discovered through volunteers’ and parents’ employers and affiliations.
  • Deliver quality services, maintain accurate and timely records for each youth participant according to standards, and utilize technology to report, synthesize and analyze data.
  • Assists in the evaluation of program services.
Collaborative Responsibilities
  • Maintain consistent availability for individual meetings with BBBS children/families/volunteers, agency staff and community partners.
  • Actively participates in agency meetings and case reviews.
  • Actively participates in developing innovative ways to meet agency goals and objectives.
  • Maintains an understanding of community problems and resources.
  • Maintains a collaborative relationship with social service agencies, businesses and other community organizations.
  • Perform duties and activities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, guiding principles, and service standards.
  • Participate in agency events and perform additional tasks assigned by the Program Coordinator and/or the Executive Director.
  • Other duties as assigned
Skills and Knowledge
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and/or similar programs
  • Comfort with online tools and reporting systems
  • Possess excellent writing, speaking, organizational, and interpersonal skills, and ability to work with volunteers, parents, and children.
  • Ability to form and sustain appropriate relationships with staff, volunteers, agency partners, and youth and families who come from diverse backgrounds.
  • Understanding of youth and families facing adversity, 40 Developmental Assets or Strengthening Families framework preferred.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work or related field is required. Master’s is preferred.
  • One year paid professional experience working with at-risk families and youth, including teaching or case management experience required.
  • Experience in volunteer support or management preferred.
  • Excellent human relations, communications, and organizational skills.
  • Experienced decision maker with capacity to work independently (with minimal supervision) on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated history of acting in a manner that reflects the agency’s values of integrity, transparency, accountability, respect and responsibility.
  • Must drive and have access to a car, possess a valid driver’s license, and meet state required insurance minimums.
