The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Adaptive Sports Manager is responsible for developing, planning, managing and executing all adaptive sports programming and events within an assigned geographic area. This position is also responsible for managing staff in regional offices with budgetary development and oversight, identifying warrior needs, matching needs with program offerings and services, and managing community relationships.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develop adaptive sports programming strategies that address identified warrior needs
  • Identify and develop methods for establishing and maintaining contact and relationships with warriors to increase retention and participation in sponsored events and activities
  • Manage program activities and regional staff including developing teammate development and retention plans and action plans as necessary.
  • Serve as a liaison with other WWP departments to ensure that adaptive sports program issues are addressed.
  • Manage the tracking and reporting of key performance indicators for regional staff in Salesforce system
  • Travel as needed to specific adaptive sports events to ensure warrior participation and successful event execution; interact with warriors at events to share experiences and
  • Manage budget (travel, events, swag, etc.) for team
  • Establish and maintain relationships with major adaptive sports associations and national (U.S.A) governing bodies (e.g. DSUSA, Warrior Games, Invictus Games, VA Adaptive Sports (Winter & Summer Clinics), National Veterans Wheelchair Games, US Paralympics, Wheelchair Basketball, Quad Rugby, Wheelchair Softball, Hand cycling, Wheelchair Tennis, etc.)
  • Identify new programs and resources and make recommendations to WWP management regarding program enhancement or modifications
  • Establish and maintain community relationships to build an ecosystem of adaptive sports support for warriors within their geographic areas.
  • Other related duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required in recreation therapy, exercise science, or similar health management field of study
Skills/Experience: 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adapted sports program design, implementation, management, and programming landscape at the local, regional, and national level 
  • Highly motivated, passionate and creative team player
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and team oriented environment
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize and effectively handle multiple priorities with tight deadlines
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple priorities while maintaining a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Professional presence & demeanor with excellent communications skills
  • Ability to communicate with diverse personalities in a tactful, mature and flexible manner
  • Ability to troubleshoot, identify viable options and problem-solve using excellent reasoning abilities and demonstrating sound judgment
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals in leadership and key community roles
  • Skill and ease while speaking in public and serving as a representative for the organization
  • Proven leadership abilities, preferably with experience supervising remote subordinates, including ability to lead, motivate, coach, and educate staff members

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience with adaptive sports program design, implementation, and management required
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in relationship-building with Military Organizations, Veterans Associations, Paralympics, or other Non-Profit, City or State-run adaptive sports programs required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of staff management experience required
  • Adaptive Sports participation and/or competition experience preferred
  • Military background or experience working with veterans preferred
  • Must be able to travel between 25% - 50% of the time including overnight travel
