This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA program(s). This position provides direct leadership, supervision, instruction and motivation for aquatics, health & wellness, and in branch childcare departments and staff in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures as well as creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes members safety and engagement.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs staff and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, may organize and schedule program registrations. May review and process program scholarship applications.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Operates within budget guidelines and meets participant goals.
  • Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
  • Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Health & Wellness, Youth Wellness

  • Interpret, communicate, and promote The Family Y mission, goals, and objectives to employees, volunteer, members, and the community at large.
  • Maintain a high profile among members for the purpose of being a role model of health and fitness.
  • Develop creative, innovative programs, training and classes within the wellness, group exercise and child watch area.
  • Lead person for Wellness in the organization.
  • Research trends and organize equipment trials to continuously stay cutting edge in Wellness.
  • Stay educated on current certifications needed for wellness staff.
  • Develop, implement and maintain the Budget for all areas of responsibility, holding staff accountable.
  • Hire, train, schedule and supervise all wellness, fitness, and group exercise staff.
  • Oversee and design ongoing, up to date wellness and educational programs for adult members of all ages and physical conditions.
  • Develop and implement operation procedures for all aspects of the wellness center.
  • Keep reports and log books related to the maintenance of all exercise equipment.
  • Develop and oversee a program of physical education for homeschool families.
  • Maintain a cooperative working relationship with all staff, volunteers and members.
  • Actively participates and supports the annual support campaign.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Two years or more years related experience preferred.
  • Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $35,000.00
