Under the supervision of the Center Director, functions as a key member of the job placement team that coaches, advises, inspires and provides guidance to students to successfully pursue the career they’ve chosen at CET. This position will develop and solidify partnering relationships with local business community to identify job opportunities and “employer expectations” for graduating job ready students and is an active partner in carrying out CET’s vision, values, and mission.Provides administrative support as required and participates in promoting the CET.

Areas of Responsibility: 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (May include but is not limited to the following):

  • Confers with Center Director to identify and develop effective job development plan for all the skills.
  • Meets with individual students to develop individual Job Placement Game Plans (JPGP) around the first two (2) weeks of enrollment to create a career path and a vision towards specific employers and job opportunities. Works and provides ongoing coaching with every student to understand the concept of “creating value” and “employer’s expectations”.
  • Reviews student’s Individual Employment Plans (IEP’s), progress reports, attendance records, and competency scores to develop a more accurate assessment of student’s personal likes, skills and abilities.
  • Attends and actively participates in scheduled Unit Team meetings to monitor student’s progress and discuss students’ barriers and obstacles to employment; contributes to developing resource action plans, including identifying and following-up with supportive services which will assist students in successfully completing their training program.
  • As a follow-up, around sixty days prior to completion of training, meets with Instructors to assess students competency levels based on the “employer’s expectations” identified in job ads or job descriptions students have researched related to jobs they are interested in.
  • Prepares lesson plans and materials and accommodates any learning challenges hindering student’s training progress which may include, Limited English, learning disabilities, etc.
  • Provides encouragement and constructive feedback to all students.
  • Engages students in on-going discussions about his/her employment goals.
  • Instructs students on creating professional resumes that accurately represent the skills of the student, and provides students with the necessary guidance to enable them to customize their resumes, highlighting their skills and any prior work experience, in direct relation to the job requirements and needs of the prospective employer(s).
  • Assists students in creating professional cover/interest letters, completing job applications, in conducting telephone inquiries regarding job openings, and/or visiting employers to drop off resumes.
  • Schedules mock interview preparations for individual students and class groups.
  • Coordinates and conducts marketing and outreach activities to community agencies, organizations and employers.
  • Actively works and continues to develop and enhance the Technical Advisory Committees (TAC’s).
  • Schedules employer presentations to share job market demands and employer expectations to assist students with job prep efforts.
  • Initiates, develops, and maintains on-going relationships with a variety of business and industry representatives to identify, promote, refer and place job ready students.
  • Participates in job fairs, tours to local industry, virtual job fairs/events and other outreach and recruitment efforts.
  • Collects data from employers related to job orders including job requirements and skills; matches job skills with student qualifications.
  • Maintains a weekly activity and results report of student job referrals and prepares reports and other data for submission to Center Director.
  • Consistently meets job placement quotas.
  • Must be available to adjust work schedule to attend job fairs, industry tours/appointments or other special events, etc.
  • Accesses and maintains confidential records, student files, including progress reports that may be shared with sponsoring agents, complying with all federal and state laws regarding adherence to safeguards to protect confidential student data.
  • Attends staff development trainings which may require overnight travel, as required.
  • Maintains good organization in work areas and adheres to safety standards. Conducts regular inspections of designated work areas and equipment and reports any hazardous or unsafe working conditions to their supervisor or safety committee. Works with other staff to conduct emergency disaster drills.
  • Responds as the campus security authority as needed during a safety, security, emergency or disaster situation.
  • Performs other program related duties as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to develop and practice effective job coaching techniques to motivate and inspire trainees to success in their skill training and career.
  • Ability to serve as an advocate for the needs of students.
  • Ability to maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with others.
  • Strong customer service orientation with a demonstrated desire to exceed expectations.
  • Possess effective customer relation skills; exhibit sensitivity to a multicultural student population.
  • Principles of marketing and public relations; basic research techniques and ability to effectively market and represent students and program.
  • Ability to interface professionally with all levels of the organization and with external schools, business leaders, community agencies and other government programs/ service agencies.
  • Must have excellent oral communication skills, in person and over the telephone; must be able to write and format professional resumes and cover letters to industry standards.
  • Knowledge of business, local market industries, community resources and services.
  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques of job development and client placement.
  • Knowledge of local labor market trends and employment opportunities in both the private and public sector.
  • Knowledge and ability to adhere to the safety standards related to school’s work environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Know of computer equipment operations and Microsoft applications.
  • Ability to process documents accurately in a timely manner.
  • Ability to prioritize work, work effectively with frequent interruptions and meet stringent schedules and timelines.
  • Ability to work under pressure; flexible, able to change direction quickly.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of recordkeeping techniques.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, able to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills/Experience: 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • An associate’s degree or higher from an accredited institution may be substituted for up to 4 years of job development experience.
  • Experience working with persons of diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATES

Use of a personal or company vehicle for CET business may be necessary in the performance of assigned duties such as attending meetings and events, recruiting, transporting students, picking up materials, and running errands. The Human Resources Department may request copies of a valid driver’s license and proof of personal automobile insurance upon being hired and annually thereafter.
