Teach For America – Greater Cleveland seeks a Manager, Incoming Corps Member Development (MICMD) to lead efforts to influence applicants to Teach For America across the country to preference Greater Cleveland and to maximize the number of accepted applicants who become teachers in the region The MICMD will accomplish this through lateral management of peers working to confirm and retain incoming corps members over the course of the year. The (MICMD) plays a critical role in ensuring the commitment, culture and foundational knowledge of all incoming Teach For America corps members through the onboarding process, communications and strong partnership with the Corps Member Development team. The MICMD will cultivate relationships with school-based human resources teams throughout the year to ensure we are bringing talent that will meet the openings districts anticipate will be available and will directly manage the hiring process for all incoming corps members. The MICMD will report to the Senior Managing Director of Program.

This is an excellent role for someone who is excited to use strong relationship-building skills to compel others to action across both internal and external audiences and to leverage effective project management skills while using data to strengthen strategy and implementation ongoing. Additionally, this role offers the opportunity to build substantial skills in lateral management of colleagues and to strengthen skills around adult learning and development. A successful MICMD is organized with strong attention to detail and a high bar for quality, is a critical thinker with a keen understanding of what motivates others, displays sound judgment in prioritizing actions based on outcomes, and has an ability to synthesize complex information into manageable messages for new people. This role requires operating with a high level of generosity of spirit and an exceptionally strong ability to suspend judgment as we help individuals overcome barriers to entering into partnership with Teach For America.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Corps Member Matriculation and Onboarding (60%)

  • Create and execute strategic plans to maximize the number of accepted corps members who confirm their offers to join TFA-Greater Cleveland and who are retained in the corps through the first day of teaching. Invest and manage the team’s participation in matriculation campaigns across the year
  • Establish data and reporting systems to track corps member matriculation and retention trends. Analyze data and develop aligned interventions
  • Create systems to collect and track required documentation that corps members must submit to districts and state agencies to become teachers in the state of Ohio
  • Maintain external relationships with school partners and the Ohio Department of Education to ensure knowledge of state certification requirements and be able to clearly articulate them to others
  • Plan and coordinate workshops to prepare corps members for state certification exams and interviews
  • In partnership with the program team, develop a strategic plan for Incoming Corps Member learning and execute a series designed to ensure CMs have critical knowledge, skills and mindsets by their first day of Induction.
  • Create  and send weekly corps member communications related to joining the corps, testing, certification, university partnerships and placement to ensure a successful onboarding and hiring experience
  • Develop written communications  and comprehensive onboarding guide to introduce corps members to the Greater Cleveland region and outline the expectations to successfully matriculate into the corps  
  • Manage the Greater Cleveland onboarding email inbox to respond to corps member questions in a timely, professional, and informed manner
  • Build 1:1 and group rapport with the incoming corps to facilitate trust and culture among staff and corps members
  • Implement strategies and partnerships to support corps member passage of required certification exams

Corps Member Hiring (20%)

  • Communicate effectively with school partners by leveraging staff relationships with principals and by developing strong relationships with district and charter network personnel regarding hiring needs in order to ensure teachers are qualified in sought-after subject areas and grade levels
  • Plan and facilitate an effective hiring strategy to ensure 100% of teachers are hired on the first day of school while ensuring equitable opportunities for teachers from all backgrounds, corps member clarity around timelines and expectations, and school partner clarity and satisfaction throughout the process
  • Prepare teachers to be successful in interviews and hiring process by hosting and coordinating resume and interview workshops and mock-interviews
  • Plan and oversee major hiring events
  • Effectively steward Teach For America’s brand and message to current school partners
  • Leverage the relationships and skills of the Executive Director and the Senior Managing Director of Program as needed with current and prospective school partners

Recruit Homegrown Applicants (10%)

  • Partner with Teach For America’s national recruitment team to identify high-potential college students who are strong candidates for the corps and have a connection to Greater Clevelan
  • Develop a strategy for one-on-one cultivation of these strong candidates who have applied to the corps to convince them to preference Greater Cleveland
  • Provide accurate and compelling information to members of the recruitment team about the corps member experience and lifestyle in Greater Cleveland
  • Provide messaging and content as needed to other regional staff who maintain Teach For America’s regional website

Leading Across the Movement (10%)

  • Participating in corps member selection and matriculation
  • Participate in efforts to cultivate corps members and alumni for institute and staff positions to fuel our movement
  • Engaging in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and continued growth and development
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree required
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of two years of professional experience
  • Teach For America alumni strongly preferred
  • Experience working or volunteering with Teach For America’s recruitment team or as a regional transition team leader (or equivalent) preferred
  • Knowledge of Ohio teacher certification rules and regulations preferred
