The Development Director will manage the development and implementation of the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter's Walk and Gala campaigns. As a member and leader of the comprehensive development team, the Development Director will be responsible for working closely with Walk development management team to recruit, train, and manage high level volunteer planning committees to lead the Walks in their respective communities.  Direct responsibilities include Gala management and the cultivation, development, and retention of existing and new volunteer and corporate partnerships in those territories.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Responsible for achieving current revenue targets and expense budgets for the Chapter Walk to End Alzheimer's and Gala events with direct accountability for goals set forth in the annual budget
  • Responsible for the achievement of the Chapter's walk and Gala revenue plan and any other benchmarks set by the VP of Development 
  • Develops and follows a comprehensive development plan for the Walk and Gala events that includes budgets, timelines, team recruitment and retention strategies, volunteer committee development, marketing/PR and logistics
  • Supervises and manages Walk to End Alzheimer's development managers throughout the Gulf Coast Chapter territories – 17+ counties
  • On-going correspondence, training, coaching of Walk staff as it pertains to Walk to End Alzheimer's and building corporate partnerships
  • In collaboration with the Chapter's Corporate Initiatives team, works to develop a new network of high level contacts for the chapter and form new corporate alliances and partnerships
  • Responsible for ensuring the Walk to End Alzheimer's and Gala events have high level leadership volunteers in place
  • Train, coaches, and develops staff and leadership volunteers to reach goals
  • Ensure Walk and Gala volunteer committees are recruited, trained and developed on the National Alzheimer's events timelines and utilizes best practices, resulting in the attainment of income and development goals
  • Works with the volunteer planning committees to execute outreach activities that promote the Alzheimer's Association mission and services, including community presentations and corporate engagement opportunities
  • Promotes internal kick offs and education activities in local corporations in the community to generate awareness for our cause; to reach out to others; to give back to the corporate sector; and to open new doors for sponsorship and engagement opportunities
  • Assures compliance with Alzheimer's Association policies, standards and regulatory requirements
  • Responsible for other duties that may be assigned
Educational Background: 
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university or 10 years in related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5+ years proven track record of revenue and expense budget management
  • 5+ years demonstrated ability to recruit, motivate and coach volunteers in a fundraising environment preferred
  • Leadership experience in fundraising and corporate partnerships
  • Proven track record of strong special event fundraising performance with year over year growth
  • Must have experience with staff, volunteer and project management responsibilities
  • Demonstrated success in the development and implementation of large events preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and fundraising software, Convio and social networking programs
  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish results through strong volunteer leadership recruitment, training, and management
  • Must be able to think strategically and execute plans to completion
  • Must have experience in cultivating relationships with corporate executives
  • Highly effective organizational, communication, negotiations and interpersonal skills
  • Appreciation of cultural and ethnic diversity, especially with respect to outreach efforts
  • Ability to travel extensively as needed, within the territory 
  • Must have access to reliable vehicle, valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance
  • Must be able to lift, carry, transport, and setup a variety of materials related to Walk to End Alzheimer's (weighing up to 50 pounds)
