This position in an Association actively engaged in many national Y initiatives, is responsible for administrative risk management including management of all general liability and workers compensation claims; compliance with certifications, licenses and trainings; and advancing safety initiatives. This position works closely with all operating units to ensure the consistent and timely execution of risk management policies, practices and procedures.   This position must remain current on risk management issues and make policy and procedure recommendations based on new laws, regulations and trends.

Areas of Responsibility: 

High Quality Programs, Services and Facilities

  • Manages all claims in collaboration with insurance adjustors. Attends recorded statements, depositions and mediations. Provides guidance to staff that participate in these activities. Makes recommendations on plan of action to close claims.
  • Participates on Risk Management Committee. Investigates and analyzes potential and actual liability exposures; evaluate the extent and elements of exposure and recommend appropriate actions for risk mitigation. Provides leadership and counsel in advancing efforts of cultivating a proactive culture of safety.
  • Analyzes employee accident and loss trends and creates solutions to address losses.
  • Oversees independent contractors ensuring compliance with policies and practices.
  • Serves as the gatekeeper for all contracts. Verifies all documents are appropriately executed and maintained. Reviews contracts for liability obligations and consults accordingly.
  • Monitors Association compliance with safety regulations (OSHA), insurance requirements and best practices.  
  • Manages the Association employee safety program, including developing, promoting, implementing, educating and monitoring the success of initiatives intended to reduce accidents, reduce costs and create safe environments. This includes developing curriculum for safety trainings
  • Manages the driver and vehicle safety program, including oversight of driver compliance, trainings and resources.
  • Manages the drug and alcohol-testing program for CDL drivers that the YMCA requires to be complaint with random testing.
  • Supports overall risk management department on special projects, including research, audits, preparing reports, compiling data, sending memos, coordinating trainings, vehicle purchases and administrative services if needed.
  • Performs comprehensive review and analysis, and develops recommendations regarding the Association's insurance needs.
  • Serves as presenter for YMCA trainings related to Risk or Safety. This includes Blast Off and Annual Aquatic Training
  • Works with Human Resources Director to design and coordinate "Annual Education" for all staff.
  • Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct. Keep supplies organized, maintain and clean facility and care for equipment.

Staff and Volunteer Management 

  • Lead and/or participate in Association committees and work groups.
  • Support branch Y Community Champions efforts. 

Finance

  • Provide predictions and recommendations for budgeting regarding financial impact of claims including loss ratios and MOD ratings.
  • Recommend adjustments, administer and track the budget, exercising necessary expense controls and revenue production.

Community Development

  • Represent and promote the YMCA in the local community and develop positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and government entities.
  • Promote and communicate the objectives and programs of the YMCA .

Financial Development

  • Incorporate storytelling in an effort to advance our mission and cause.
  • Participate in Annual Campaign efforts.
  • Participate in branch special events for fundraising or mission advancement.

Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree in Risk Management or in a related field or CRMA (or similar) certification preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • At least one year experience in related field.
  • Must meet YMCA of the Suncoast driving criteria. Y-USA Leader, Team leader, Multi Team Leader or Organizational Leader Certification is a plus.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to work with others and multitask. Must be able to manage and cultivate relationships and have a high level of emotional maturity.
  • Must have strong organizational and communication skills including written, verbal and presentation.
Compensation/Benefits: 

Hourly: $13.16 - $13.97
