The Child Care Administrator is responsible for overseeing the Child Care Program at Frost Valley YMCA.  This includes overseeing the implementation of an orderly, safe, and enjoyable program for children ages 6 weeks to 4 years of age.  The Administrator will design and execute activities and schedules, work directly with parents as a liaison, hire and supervise staff, and ensure that the program meets all New York State and local licensing requirements as well as the standards for a quality program at Frost Valley YMCA.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Set a positive example for staff and children by practicing Frost Valley YMCA Core Values (Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, Stewardship, Diversity, Inclusiveness and Community).
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of full day Child Care Program, including caring for children’s daily needs, proper sign-in/out procedures, all program activities, meals, and set up and clean-up of the physical space.  Assume primary responsibility for the safety and welfare of all children.  Be physically present when the program is in operation.
  • Function as a Lead Teacher for the Child Care Program.  Teach children age appropriate skills, guide relationship building, make arts and crafts, engage children in indoor and outdoor play and gross motor activity.  This will also include caring directly for children such as feeding infants, assisting with diapering and toilet training, attention to hygiene such as clean and dry clothing, and grooming basics such a brushing children’s teeth, etc.
  • Implement a behavior management plan for children.  Efficiently redirect inappropriate behaviors and guide the program discipline system to effectively create a positive educational environment.  
  • Develop and implement all activities and the daily schedule.  This includes the researching and writing of lesson plans and Program Quality Standards which meet developmental goals for children’s education.  Create new and innovative programs for children.
  • Be a liaison and primary point of contact for parents and families.  Provide excellent customer service through face to face contact, emails, phone calls, and letters.  Build relationships with children and families.
  • Create, maintain and update all correspondence and materials for families.  This will include the registration packet, health forms, emergency paperwork, and required forms for NY State, information on policies and procedures, etc.
  • Ensure all camper and staff files are up to date and accessible at all times.
  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate Child Care teachers and substitute teachers.  Ensure that all New York State licensing and training requirements for staffing are met.  Ensure staff compliance with all personnel policies.  Use progressive discipline as needed.
  • Oversee scheduling and payroll for Child Care Program.
  • Inspire and lead your staff, improve staff morale and develop staff.
  • Develop and oversee an annual budget.  Project income, control expenses, make purchases and keep an inventory of equipment.  Prepare financial reports as needed.
  • Work with the Camp Registration department for billing and payment collection for families.
  • Ensure that the Child Care Program meets or exceeds all standards set forth by New York State, the ACA, the Health Department, Frost Valley and YMCA of the USA.  Maintain the license with NYS Department of Child and Family Services.
  • Responsible to communicate with all support departments in relation to Child Care Program needs.  This would include Maintenance, Housekeeping, IT, Food Service and Health Services.
  • Attend meetings at Frost Valley as needed
  • All other duties as assigned
Educational Background: 
Minimum of Associate’s Degree with the intent to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, or related field
New York State Children’s Program Administrator Credential or two years of college with a minimum of 12 credits in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, or related field with the intent to obtain a Bachelor’s degree.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Two years direct experience with children less than 6 years of age
  • Two years working with children in a formal program such as child care, day camp, after school, etc.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory capacity in a child care program or related field of work
  • A desire to work with children between 6 weeks and 4 years of age in an active child care setting to create a safe, fun and nurturing environment
  • Proven success with staff supervision, program development and implementation, implementation of safety protocols and regulations, and excellent customer service
  • Must be reliable, detail oriented, motivated and personable
  • Able to work well with a team of others and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Outstanding character, enthusiasm, patience, adaptability, sound judgment and a sense of humor
  • Must be a strong leader and able to work well alone or with others
  • Have a clean, valid US driver’s license
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and Thinsoft
  • Be able to work flexible hours as needed with long days, this may include more than 40 hours per week
  • Requires fingerprint/background check prior to start date in compliance with  New York State Department of Child and Family Services
  • First Aid, CPR and AED certified (certifications can be earned upon hire at Frost Valley)

Compensation/Benefits: 

Hourly: $13.00 - $16.00
