Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Aquatics Director administers and executes the policies and programs of the YMCA.
Areas of Responsibility:
- In consultation with the Chief Executive Officer, sets budget and enrollment goals for YMCA aquatic programs.
- Employs, trains and supervises personnel in aquatic leadership jobs. Recruits volunteer and/or paid leaders for all groups. Regularly observes all classes, giving praise where due and suggestions for improvement where necessary. Also teaches classes.
- The director must be able to lead/teach/instruct CPR Certifications, Lifeguard Certifications, Swim Lessons Instruction, Water Safety, Child and Infant CPR and other certifications necessary for instruction.
- Co-Coaches the Grand River Gators Swim Team. Works with the Swim Team Parents Club to promote the sport of swimming and keep the swimmers motivated and moving forward
- In consultation with the Maintenance Director, maintains the proper chemical water treatment in the pool(s) and supervises regular pool maintenance.
- Keeps an equipment inventory. Cares for equipment. Staying within budget, orders new equipment when necessary.
- Through appropriate groups, is a part of the community.
- Is involved in other organizations outside of the YMCA.
- Provides for training and development of aquatic and exercise class leaders.
- Serves as a resource person to the YMCA Program Committee.
- Through training events and conferences, keeps abreast of the latest trends and ideas in YMCA programming, aquatics, fitness and recreation.
Skills/Experience:
- The successful applicant must bring to this position an appropriate background of education and experience to be able to contribute to and carry out the YMCA’s efforts. This position requires previous experience in aquatics. The Aquatics Director must be able to work well with both children and adults as well as manage the facilities, equipment, resources and programs of the YMCA.
- The human relations aspect of this position is important. The successful applicant must understand the importance of the relationship between the general public and the YMCA. The incumbent must be able to effectively supervise both staff and volunteers. The incumbent must be able to recruit, train and supervise aquatic staff as well as organize and teach classes.
