The Manager of Auxiliary Relations has the responsibility of managing the activities of the Guild and the Costume Council, the Museum’s two most longstanding donor groups. Along with the Board of Trustees, the Guild and Costume Council represent the leadership of the Museum. The Manager directs the activities of both groups including fundraising appeals and events, communications, database record-keeping, event management, membership committee and board meetings, and more. The Manager operates independently to oversee the activities, especially fundraising activities, for both groups. The primary goal of this position is to increase interest, engagement and satisfaction of these groups, and promote increased levels of net contributions to the Institution.

Areas of Responsibility: 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Promote positive relations between the Museum and the Auxiliary Group leadership and members including managing expectations, conflict resolution, and leading donor relations.
  • With the group presidents, lead, plan, budget, coordinate, and implement all meetings, programs, and special events related to the Guild and Costume Council. Assist with additional IA events and CHM events.
  • Manage all fundraising activities with Auxiliary Groups including appeals, benefit events, cultivation, and stewardship.
  • Develop and lead all member communications including directories, event invitations, email communications, etc.
  • Manage membership programs for both the Guild and Costume Council; includes renewals, reminders and directory development.
  • Develop, oversee and execute Guild and Costume Council fundraising campaigns: annual appeals, benefit events, silent auctions, individual donation requests
  • Manage PR for Guild and Costume Council events.
  • Solicit support from outside businesses and individuals in support of Guild and Costume Council events.
  • Serve as liaison between Auxiliary Groups and all CHM departments.

OTHER DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Assist with Board of Trustees meetings, when needed
  • Supervise Development volunteers and interns
  • Maintain appearance and organization of IA storage area that contains Guild and Costume Council archives and event supplies
  • Coordinate other administrative office activities as needed.
  • Serve on CHM staff committees as needed and attend all CHM Events meetings.
Skills/Experience: 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus 3-5 years of experience in event/program planning, and individual fundraising preferably at a cultural institution
  • Superior written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills required
  • Experience in Raiser’s Edge with ability to pull standard reports and continue relationship management
  • Experience directing the work of volunteers and/or interns
  • Ability to gather information from a variety of sources
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines and manage details
  • Foster positive relationships with others and effectively influence others.
  • Ability to problem solve creatively and effectively
  • Commitment to the mission, values, and programs of the Chicago History Museum
