Reporting to the Director of Operations, this position is responsible for key elements of the Illinois Chapter-wide volunteer program.  This includes assisting in efforts to support the recruitment, retention and recognition of all volunteers by working with all Illinois Chapter departments in order to increase the activity of volunteers to meet Chapter-wide goals and objectives.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Recruit, screen, and place volunteers, matching interests, and qualifications to areas of need identified by the Chapter; confer with Chapter staff to determine the nature and level of the Chapter’s volunteer needs
  • Ensure that volunteers are engaged and utilized throughout the Chapter to enhance the efforts of the staff and achieve strategic plan goals
  • Manage the Alzheimer’s Association Community Representatives (AACR) program, and track their impact on the Chapter’s goals
  • Collaborate with Program staff to develop and implement the Alzheimer’s Association Community Educator (AACE) program 
  • Attend and assist in the recruitment and organization of volunteers at special events - including but not limited to the annual Illinois Actions Summit, Walk to End Alzheimer’s, ALZ Stars, Forget Me Not Days and Chapter conferences
  • Use social media, corporate volunteer offices, university and college job centers, and other methods to find and recruit volunteers.  This includes attendance at volunteer fairs, and other related events
  • Manage communication efforts that inform and support volunteer participation, retention, and recognition
  • Manage and maintain the Volunteer Management System (VMS) through regular improvements in functionality, checking accuracy, and planning for growth
  • Maintain volunteer records, track statistics concerning volunteer participation, number of volunteer hours, assignments and accomplishments, and prepare annual dashboard information
  • Serve as liaison between the Chapter and Junior Board, Director of Volunteer Initiatives, Walk Manager (Walk Committees) and Public Policy (Lead Advocates) in order to monitor and track hours 
  • Assist in the development and promotion of volunteer videos and webinars to increase effectiveness of volunteer recruitment efforts and training
  • Assist in the monitoring and updating of volunteer section of Chapter website
  • Design job descriptions for volunteer assignments; establish procedures to evaluate volunteer performance; provide volunteer orientation, in-service training and support; train staff to recruit and work with volunteers
  • Cultivate relationships with volunteers by understanding their interests and being familiar with Chapter events, programs and services, in order to broaden the volunteer???s involvement with the Chapter
  • Establish uniform procedures throughout the Chapter offices
  • Serve as reception back-up
  • Other duties as required or assigned
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree in human resource management, nonprofit management, or related field 
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum two years’ experience in volunteer management or equivalent experience
  • Experience in a non-profit setting strongly preferred
  • Proficient user of personal computer, Microsoft software applications, Google suite required; familiarity with donor software systems preferred
  • Must have valid driver license and automobile insurance
  • Superior motivator (written and verbal) with the ability to encourage others to maximize potential
  • Demonstrated volunteer management skills, including the ability to set clear goals, organize projects, establish and manage budgets, and develop work processes
  • Strong awareness of the social, economic, political environment in which the Association operates, since part of its effectiveness is in partnering in the larger community
