Vice President, Organizational Risk and Child Safety

The Vice President, Organizational Risk and Child Safety designs and implements the national strategy within the assigned area of responsibility. This position must bring progressive thought leadership and next level problem solving as we focus on strengthening our position in the risk arena and continue to protect our Y brand.  Through intentional relationship building, communication and influence, this position will also support movement leaders as they make critical strategic decisions around enterprise risk.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Organizational Risk

  • Provide and develop subject matter expertise in the area of safety and risk
  • Provide leadership, expertise, guidance and vision to Y cohorts, task forces, project teams and other collaborators to further advance our safety and risk practices, within the movement.
  •  Develop a national strategic vision for safety and risk management priorities within the Y movement considering strategic, reputational, operational and compliance-related risks. 
  • Co-create resources and systems to assist local Y’s with risk assessments to identify key risks and assess mitigating controls.
  • Monitor industry wide risk indicators to elevations in risk as well as identify emerging concerns and compliance requirements to the Y-Movement. 
  • Cultivate and manage internal and external resources available to local YMCAs.
  • Serve as the lead moderator for LINK.
  • Serve as a catalyst for transforming the Y-Movement’s safety culture through the development of strong relationships with the Y risk management community.
  • Strategically collaborate with other YUSA departments and local YMCAs to understand challenges and opportunities.
  • Serve as a resource for the Y-Movement to improve the safety culture and our overall performance in the area of risk.
  • Provide support to the annual risk management conference.

Child Safety

  • Provide and develop subject matter expertise in the area of child safety & protection.
  • Co-Create and execute the overall child safety strategy to the Y movement.
  • Facilitate child safety efforts and initiatives with the YMCA Guardians Group, State Alliances and industry related partners.
  • Coordinate communication efforts regarding abuse prevention and any efforts focused on creating safe spaces for children.
  • Represent the Y as the primary advocate for child safety both inside and outside of the organization.
  • Coordinate the education, awareness and learning opportunities across the movement.
  • Promote child safety as a critical priority for the Y movement amongst local CEO’s to reduce the gap between standards and practice.
  • Stay adept of industry trends and work with our insurance partners on closing existing gaps.
  • Support the integration of third-party initiatives and resources into local Y operations
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the safety & risk industry
  • Minimum 5 years YMCA executive leadership and operational experience
  • Ability to travel 50% of the time
  • Demonstrated ability to scale a broad organizational initiative across regional and national platforms
  • Demonstrated experience catalyzing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with individuals, professional networks and third-party partners/vendors
  • Demonstrated experience motivating, influencing and leading others
  • Demonstrated experience assessing, mitigating and leading an organization with their enterprise risk initiatives
  • Excellent group work and facilitation skills
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to align and integrate objectives and resources to accomplish goals
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to work within the parameters of employment laws
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing processes relating to service delivery models
  • Possess or be able to achieve status as a Certified Praesidium Guardian within first 12-18 months
  • Commitment to our Y personality attributes, performance behaviors and character values
  • Relocation to Chicago is preferred but not required
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $170,000.00 - $200,000.00
