The Alzheimer's Association is seeking an energetic and skilled media relations/marketing communications professional to join the Association's media engagement team to work closely with colleagues in the Home Office and across the country to achieve greater awareness, reach and impact. They support proactive and reactive research/science media relations efforts with consumer, science and health media targets.
This position is based at the Alzheimer's Association's Home Office in downtown Chicago, IL and reports to the Associate Director, Public Relations.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Develops and maintains media materials, databases and lists.
- Fulfills reactive media requests
- Tracks key topics and conversations.
- Serves as liaison to social media and content creation staff.
- Supports and coaches Chapters in their media relations/communications efforts.
- Other projects as assigned.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, or Journalism
Skills/Experience:
- Minimum 3-5 years' progressive professional public relations/communications experience, preferably in a public relations agency and/or health- or science-related organization
- Knowledge and understanding of the work of journalists and the evolving news business - for print, broadcast, online and social media
- Outstanding - and audience-appropriate - written and verbal communication skills in high volume environments and with multiple, diverse audiences
- Skilled at crafting communications to present information both factually and persuasively
- Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate and negotiate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including medical and scientific staff, members of the media, and management
- Experience managing detailed and/or scientific information, working with health issues, medical and scientific topics and complicated material
- Ability to think strategically and critically to execute projects while relating business goals to communication and technology solutions and meeting deadlines
- Flexibility and adaptability to recognize and respond appropriately to opportunities and changing environments
- Ability to organize and prioritize a wide variety of information and tasks
- Familiarity and facility with various communications and multi-media technology
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google applications
