The Senior Director ensures philanthropic resources to advance or accelerate the organization’s strategic priorities.

The Senior Director, Strategic Philanthropy & Partnerships leads Y-USA’s fundraising team in developing the philanthropic resource to achieve organizational priorities. The incumbent is accountable for planning and execution of a 3-year fundraising plan to raise $150M from national, institutional donors including pipeline and prospective donor identification, qualification, solicitation and stewardship. The incumbent will carry their own donor and partner portfolio. The incumbent will orchestrate the work of the fundraising team, colleagues in YMCA affiliates, Y-USA senior and executive leadership and members of the National Board of Directors to advance donor relationships.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Operationalize and execute the final 2 years of the 2019-2021 $150M fundraising plan; establish the team, business processes and prospective donor pipeline to sustain levels of average annual fundraising into the future
  • Supervise the fundraising and donor research teams (currently 6 FTE) with focus on performance and professional development.
  • Through research and lead generation, develop new relationships collectively valued at $75M+
  • Lead the team in maintaining strong partnerships with YMCA affiliates, approaching donor relationships collaboratively.
  • Partner with the Chief Advancement Officer and VP Advancement to orchestrate the work of execute leadership and the National Board of Directors in building donor and partner relationships.
Educational Background: 
A Bachelor’s degree is required.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 10+ years and demonstrated success in developing partnerships with national corporations/foundations is fundamental. Fundraising and/or sales experience is relevant.
  • 5+ years and demonstrated success in managing a fundraising and/or sales team is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in lead generation as well as in managing established relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex ideas with clarity and communicate effectively in verbal, written and presentation formats.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in engaging effectively with multiple C-Suite partners.
  • Demonstrated facility with Moves management processes and software is expected.
  • Demonstrated experience with project and institutional budgets is required.
  • Must be able to travel at least 40% of the time and to work independently from the road.
