This position gives voice and visibility to the national office vision, strategies, perspectives, initiatives and resources.

The Senior Communications Manager develops and executes strategic communications plans for both internal and external audiences. A variety of communications assets and tools/resources are developed by this position and distributed to defined target audiences, which aids in advancing the Y’s mission and increasing/enhancing brand perception. This position serves as communications support to advance organizational priorities, ensuring alignment with Y-USA’s defined message platform.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Develops and executes strategic communication plans and campaigns
  • Works within defined message platform and content strategy to elevate consistent brand voice and strategic priorities across organizational and client communications efforts
  • Crafts compelling and insightful content, materials and resources (e.g., testimonials, case studies, stories of impact) to drive stakeholder understanding of and engagement in Y organizational priorities at the local, national and international levels
  • Develops digital communications efforts, including planning, writing, producing and/or distributing videos, blogs, social media posts and website content
  • Collaborates with Marketing Communications teams (Brand, Digital Marketing, Public Relations and Design) as well as cross-functional teams to develop compelling communications content that advances organizational goals
  • Tracks and evaluates communication strategies to ensure goals are met
  • Identifies opportunities to continuously improve the strategic relevancy, effectiveness and quality of communications and related tools and resources produced by Y-USA
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field is required
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 5-7 years in a communications role or equivalent role supporting communications efforts for a matrix organization is required; experience in corporate communications and/or supporting an organizational sales or marketing team is a plus
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills are required
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and executing strategic communications plans and campaigns within defined message platform and aligned with organizational priorities is required
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize research that highlights dynamic environmental trends and shifting demographics to inform persuasive communications is required
  • Demonstrated experience in developing compelling content for a variety of tools/resources (such as key messaging documents, collateral, email communications, blog posts, digital content, op-eds) is required
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and planning skills are required including project/production management capabilities and ability to balance multiple projects, priorities and deadlines is required
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as within a team environment across all levels of an organization is required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and with strong cultural competencies; experience in multicultural marketing communications is a plus
  • Commitment to the YMCA character development values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility is required
