The Senior Analyst, GIS & Data Visualization is responsible for creating and managing the GIS and Power BI project queue.

The Senior Analyst, GIS & Data Visualization is responsible for creating and managing the GIS and Power BI project queue (in partnership with the Senior Director, ETL & Insight Solutions). Additionally, this position recommends, configures, evaluates and deploys high-quality GIS and Power BI solutions that enable our clients to meet the changing needs of community landscapes, demonstrate communicate impact and assess YMCA performance metrics against operational excellence standards.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Meets with stakeholders and Lead ETL & Insights Analyst to complete assessments of need as it relates to visualization, geospatial and/or dashboard projects.
  • Evaluates, prioritizes and schedules que of GIS & Data Visualization projects.
  • Organizes, facilitates and executes development of approved GIS & Data Visualization projects on behalf of clients according to client’s requirements.
  • Designs custom Power BI reports and dashboards by aggregating and deriving data from disparate information sets.
  • Develop trade area and competitive landscape maps in conjunction with, demographic reporting and location analytics for site, programming and service opportunity identification.
  • Conduct analysis and explanatory regression for determining site/programing/service opportunity or demographics variables that have the strongest correlations from trade to trade area.
  • Conduct standard GIS and Data Visualization tasks including but not limited to:
  • Custom model building
  • Custom Python script development
  • Support design and development of frameworks for SQL views
  • Work in partnership with Information Technology department to coordinate maintenance of GIS software and manage the development of GIS & visualization software packages (the primary contact for partner vendors).
  • In partnership with Senior Director, ETL & Insight Solutions identify requirements for and implement an organizational Story Map and Hub strategy that support multiple GIS & Data Visualization deliverables.
  • Complete additional ETL & Insight Solution projects as assigned
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s Degree required in Geography, Computer Science or related fields
Skills/Experience: 
  • 10+ years of experience using GIS software and data visualization tools (Preferably ESRI products and Power BI)
  • 5+ years of experience operating in consulting role charged with:
  • Organizing and executing data visualization projects on behalf of internal clients according to client’s requirements
  • Meeting with stakeholders to complete initial assessments of tool requirements
  • 3+ year experience partnering with an IT department to coordinate maintenance of GIS software and develop technical support processes
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience developing custom Python scripts
  • Outstanding cartographic, conceptual, GIS analytic, accuracy and attention to detail skills are required
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement train others in basic GIS operations
  • Demonstrated skill in managing research, analytics and visualization partners (internal/external) to strengthen organizational visual insight solutions
  • Excellent client service skills and the ability to manage multiple projects is required
