The national Manager, LGBTQ Inclusion and Equity is responsible for providing technical support and strategic guidance to Y-USA and movement efforts ensuring access and equity for all with specific focus on LGBTQ individuals, families and communities as well as other underserved populations with an overarching lens of intersectionality.

This position is grant funded and will preferably be based out of our Chicago headquarters. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • In partnership with Director of Diversity and Inclusion, responsible for Y-USA’s LGBTQ inclusion and equity portfolio ensuring access and advancing equity for all.
  • Serves as national subject matter expert and team lead for internal and external efforts on LGBTQ inclusion and equity, related intersectionality, and engagement of other underserved communities.
  • Supports and strengthens national working groups and networks on LGBTQ inclusion and equity.
  • Ensures comprehensive support of Y-USA departments and local Ys towards advancing LGBTQ inclusion and equity.  
  • Creates, implements and continually refines strategy, models, frameworks and resources ensuring access for all.
  • Designs, pilots, evaluates and enhances trainings including web-based, e-learning and in-person opportunities, partnering with Talent Management as needed.
  • Supports the integration of diversity and inclusion (D&I) and global efforts into local YMCA strategic priorities including membership, program innovation, leadership development, collaboration, visibility and financial development.
  • Identifies and promotes YMCA opportunities for LGBTQ individuals, families and communities, including internal and external branding and visibility efforts.
  • Maintains current information regarding local, state and federal laws and regulations as well as industry and sector best practices related to LGBTQ inclusion and equity.
  • Partners with Director and Manager, Administration to ensure efficient, effective and seamless movement-wide communication, support and service delivery on LGBTQ inclusion and equity, considering intersectionality across all dimensions of diversity.
  • Ensures cross-functional alignment across Y-USA with key departments; general counsel, marketing and communications, talent and knowledge management, association resources, membership and programs, international group, etc.
  • Partners with Director in leading efforts with external partner organizations relevant to LGBTQ inclusion and equity, especially those with local presence.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director, Diversity & Inclusion. 
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in related field is required
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 5 - 7 years’ experience working with LGBTQ communities required
  • Experience in diversity and inclusion, organizational change, community engagement, non-profit management or a related field is preferred
  • Ability to travel a minimum of 40% of the time is required
  • Minimum of 2 - 4 years’ experience with web-based communications, online survey tools and knowledge of SharePoint or other web management systems is required
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal protections, current/future legislation and laws related to protected classes, LGBTQ inclusion and equity is required
  • Experience with and understanding of the YMCA or similar organization is required
  • Exceptional ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and often conflicting ideologies is required
  • Must possess highly developed cultural competence and self-awareness
  • Minimum of 2 – 4 years’ experience with advanced research and data analysis skills are required  
  • Minimum of 2 – 4 years’ experience with designing, developing and implementing professional training, presentations and curricula is required
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills are required
  • Advanced computer and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) skills are required
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating and motivating staff and volunteer engagement on diversity and inclusion topics and strategic priorities is required
  • Must be solution driven, collaborative, innovative, strategic, and highly motivated
  • Commitment to the YMCA character development values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility is required
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00
