Leadership Development Manager – Leadership Certification and Bridge Program

The Leadership Development Manager provides leadership to the Y’s Program and Leadership Certification system and the Bridge Program including the Bridge Principles and Practices.  

The Program and Leadership Certification system is the credentialing process specific to the Y which provides certifications that correspond to levels of leadership responsibility and job specific responsibilities defined by the Leadership Competency Model.  

The Bridge Program is designed to orient new Organizational Leaders and Multi-Team or Branch Leaders to the YMCA culture and not-for-profit work and to connect the new leaders to other leaders across the movement.  The Bridge Program includes providing leadership and facilitation to the Leadership Program for Organizational Leaders as well as additional components of the Bridge Program for both Multi-Team and Organizational Leaders.  

In addition, the Leadership Development Manager will contribute to the following: the facilitation of the traditional Principles and Practices program which is designed for early to mid career YMCA professionals and focused on increasing their understanding of the organizational culture, and providing opportunities for networking and individual growth – all of which will result in a deeper commitment to the Mission and the Movement; and the design and delivery of Leadership Competency development tools which assist all staff members in building the leadership skills, abilities and knowledge needed to succeed in the YMCA.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • A bachelor’s degree is required, a master’s degree is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in YMCA operations and/or YMCA association level responsibilities is required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in training and development of staff is required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with board and/or volunteer development and fundraising is required
  • Supervisory Experience is preferred
  • Must possess the ability to connect and build relationships with organizational leaders
  • Must have the ability to travel up to 50% of the time
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal/written communication  skills are required
  • Must have strong presentation and facilitation skills
  • Must possess strong project management skills, analytical skills, and problem solving skills
  • Must possess the ability to guide others in support of change management
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with individuals across a broad range of groups
  • Must possess strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing environment and circumstances
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required

Skills/Experience: 
  • Ensures effective operations of the Leadership Certification process including processing certifications, the Bridge Program, certification testing and the recertification process Continue the design and development of the new Leadership Certification system, including testing, recertification, and tracking, and identify and implement strategies to ensure Y adoption of the Leadership Certification system. 
  • Manages the operations of developing technical systems to support the Leadership Certification, and works with the Certifications and IT departments to ensure systems are operating effectively and efficiently
  • Leads the design of new components of the Leadership and Program Certification and Bridge Program
  • Manages the online degree collaborations ensuring Y staff have access to an online degree program to the complete the degree requirement of the Leadership Certification  
  • Manages the implementation and effectiveness of all components of the Bridge Program including participants’ experience in the program, coaching participants on bridge program requirements and learning and development goals, and initiating connection to other Multi-Team or Branch and Organizational Leaders 
  • Maintains high impact design of Bridge Principles and Practices and overall Bridge Program  by managing and providing continuous improvement to Bridge program and Bridge Principles and Practices
  • Improves and implements an ongoing evaluation system for the Leadership Certification and Bridge Program
  • Facilitates the Principles and Practices Bridge Program and the traditional Principles and Practices program
  • Creates and implements communication and participant recruitment strategies
  • Invents new approaches for delivering scalable programs in a new and innovative organization
  • Collaborates with internal clients and local Ys to assess their leadership developmental needs, perform gap analysis and design and lead training programs to provide management and leadership skills and capabilities
  • Updates programs with industry best practices so that the training programs are not redundant
  • Selects the appropriate blend of learning modalities that will maximize the relevance, impact and understanding of specific subjects
  • Ensures ongoing alignment with the Leadership Competency Model and YUSA Best Practices
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00
