NRDC is seeking an Electric Vehicle (EV) Technical Strategist to work with the American Cities Climate Challenge Team in the Healthy People and Thriving Communities program. The American Cities Climate Challenge is an unprecedented opportunity to support 25 ambitious cities to significantly deepen and accelerate their efforts to tackle climate change and promote a sustainable future for their residents. The EV Technical Strategist joins a team of transportation experts working on the Climate Challenge at NRDC. The EV Technical Strategist will play three key roles on the team: 1) Manage and oversee the work of the two Climate Challenge partner organizations providing technical assistance to cities on vehicle electrification issues, 2) Serve as NRDC transportation team lead for no more than five of the 25 cities across multimodal transportation policy issues and projects, providing transportation technical assistance directly to city staff and colleagues and managing partner organizations providing additional support to city staff, and 3) Be available on call to provide strategic support, respond to research requests, and give policy guidance to colleagues, partners, and city staff working in all 25 cities on vehicle electrification issues.
- Strategy Development: Help cities participating in the American Climate Cities Challenge develop strategies to implement the high-impact vehicle electrification and mobility strategies to reduce carbon emissions. Work with cities and Climate Challenge colleagues to prioritize electrification policies and programs based on their carbon impact, likelihood of implementation, co-benefits, and broader scalability.
- Coordination: Work closely with city leads on overall strategy and implementation to deliver technical assistance on vehicle electrification issues. Coordinate with the broader American Cities Climate Challenge team of transportation experts to support cities to achieve their transportation decarbonization goals by engaging the appropriate transportation partner support, given the city’s goals.
- City Support: Provide direct on-call, quick turnaround technical assistance to a subset of climate challenge cities, participating as needed in regular calls and site visits, coordinating with other partners as needed.
- Manage: Serve as the manager and liaison coordinating the deployment of technical support from vehicle electrification partners to cities. Develop city specific scopes of work with partners, ensure their timely implementation.
- Three to five years of experience in the field of vehicle electrification. Working knowledge of policies and programs related to: vehicle and fleet electrification, EV charging infrastructure, electric vehicle education and outreach programs, vehicle incentive programs, dealer engagement, EV market transformation or other related.
- Experience working with city governments preferred
- Experience overseeing and managing individuals and organizations, experience with contract management.
- Relevant network among key electric vehicle stakeholders
- Ability to participate in teams that work collaboratively towards shared outcomes (including remote teams using collaborative software)
- Excellent writing skills, strong verbal communication, and confident public speaker
- Willingness to travel to Climate Challenge cities throughout the United States, as well as to other NRDC offices and U.S. locations as needed. Travel is estimated at 2-3 times per month.
- Experience with facilitating networks, coordinating and organizing events and activities a plus.
- Experience being part of large, cross-sector, multi-partner initiatives a plus.
