The Director, Strategic Planning will provide leadership for strategic planning and implementation for Y’s throughout the United States. This position will facilitate critical thinking and identify solutions to organizational issues faced by senior leaders. Through appropriate communication, relationship building and influence this role will be responsible for supporting senior leaders as they make critical strategic decisions regarding the growth and success of their Ys.

This position will coach and provide feedback to Alliance Partners in the area of strategic planning to ensure consistency and high-quality engagement of local Y planning. This position will serve as the strategic planning community moderator for LINK and engage movement moderators regarding tasks and expectations. It is also expected that the Director will bring new thinking and best practices in strategic planning.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Drives and supports strategy development and execution
  • Collaborates with Alliance Partners to ensure consistent delivery of strategic planning in local Ys
  • Develops content and process methods in the areas of strategic planning that are provided to the movement in partnership with our Alliance Partners; ensuring they are current, valued and meet the needs and expectations of Ys. Serves as a subject matter expert; reviews, updates and creates strategic planning resources and tools for LINK 
  • Partners with Alliance Partners and Senior Leaders to stimulate thinking on growth opportunities, organizational capabilities and provides solutions to organizational issues
  • Collaborates with Y-USA departments to ensure consistent best practices are integrated across the movement
  • Supports Alliance Partners and Y Leaders to aid in their highest level of performance and demonstration of consistent sound strategy and cause-driven behaviors
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of industry trends and drives the process of identifying new and emerging work in strategic planning and communicates best practices
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's Degree is required. Master's Degree is preferred
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum 10 years of senior leadership experience in a large and complex organization is required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the areas of strategic planning and development; change management; staff and volunteer leadership; research and development; and advocacy and conflict resolution are required
  • Demonstrated experience with large group facilitation, coaching senior executives, and establishing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with individuals across a broad range of groups is required
  • Demonstrated experience working within large urban communities and understanding the complexities of these environments are required
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior management position of a large YMCA is preferred
  • Ability to travel approximately 50% of the time is required
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and presentation skills are required
  • Demonstrated excellent project management skills are required
  • Demonstrated excellent facilitation, negotiation and influencing skills are required
  • Demonstrated advanced analytical and problem-solving skills are required
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully multi-task, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines is required
  • Intermediate computer and Microsoft Office skills are required
  • Commitment to the YMCA character development values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility is required
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $125,000.00 - $135,000.00
