Teach For America seeks a Director of Matriculation and Onboarding to maximize the scale, diversity and impact of our movement by driving strategies and projects related to matriculation, onboarding, and retention of incoming corps members (teachers). This individual will be responsible for setting the vision for the corps member experience from the moment an applicant is accepted to TFA to the time they arrive in the region in June. As a result, the Director has the opportunity to set the tone for corps culture and leadership for the corps commitment and beyond. The Director, Matriculation and Onboarding will report to the Managing Director, Partnerships & Onboarding.
Matriculation Planning & Execution (35%)
- Set vision and direction for all regional corps member recruitment, confirmation (period when accepted applicants accept or decline their offer), onboarding and retention efforts with a focus on retaining, developing, and supporting a diverse cohort of incoming corps members who successfully matriculate to the first day of school
- Manage the execution of at least five confirmation campaigns per year (the week-long period when accepted applicants make a decision to accept or decline our offer to join the corps) by successfully stewarding participation of staff members, corps members, and alumni
- Report all progress to goal and other relevant data on an ongoing basis and as needed to inform stakeholders of status, needs, opportunities, and challenges
- Build and maintain strong relationships with important partners including, but not limited to, the TFA Admissions and Recruitment teams
- Support the Manager, Licensure with regional Assignment Smoothing (assigning admitted applicants to the subject area they’ll be teaching during their corps commitment) in order to build a corps composition that addresses our landscape’s needs
Incoming Corps Member Support (35%)
- Support and develop corps members toward success throughout the onboarding experience by building relationships with individual corps members, troubleshooting challenges that may arise, and providing ongoing targeted support as needed by serving as the main point of contact
- Design a communication strategy to ensure all incoming corps members are clear about steps that need to be taken during the onboarding process, including timely and clear access to information for licensure, hiring, and Summer Training
- Manage special processes around corps member confirmation decisions, including managing extensions, deferrals, emergency releases and reassignments, including partnering with TFA Corps Members Policies and Procedures (CMPP), Admissions, and other regional teams
- Serve as the regional DACA liaison partnering with the TFA DACA Initiative team in order to support our DACAmented educators through the onboarding process
Summer Training (15%)
- Set vision and direction for corps and staff member summer culture
- Design, package and disseminate the corps member pre-work in alignment with the Corps Experience team’s vision for the Arc of Member Development
- Serve on the Summer Training Induction Committee; responsibilities may include, but not limited to, session design, session and workshop facilitation during Week 1, and/or operational and logistical supports for Induction events
Team Responsibilities (5%)
- Prepare for and lead check-ins with your manager around progress toward your goals and your ongoing development
- Prepare for and participate in team meetings with regional colleagues
- Collaborate with and support your regional colleagues’ work and development
Collective Responsibilities (10%)
- Fulfill foundational responsibilities that allow our region to do our work, make decisions, grow as professionals, and strengthen our team culture, including but not limited to attending regional meetings, operating with our Core Values and commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusiveness, completing our performance management cycle, and upholding our data management, office operations, and fiscal responsibilities
- Make a direct impact on the organizational mission of enlisting, developing and mobilizing leaders to strengthen the movement for educational equity by participating in selection (6-10 days total plus preparation and close out time), matriculation (up to six windows across the year), regional recruitment activity, member facing events (including Leadership Summits and Summer Training), our alumni giving campaign, alumni survey, and at least one regional or national committee/working group, as well as other initiatives that impact our members and partners
- Previous experience as a Teach For America corps member highly preferred
- At least four years of professional work experience
