Teach For America - Chicago-Northwest Indiana seeks a Director, Corps Member Learning to play a critical role at the heart of our work with University Partners and the content and learning arc they develop for our members. Ensuring that our corps members receive strong development and support through their university coursework as well as through Teach For America’s content programming is at the center of this role. The Director, Corps Member Learning sits on the Corps Member Leadership team, and reports to the VP, Corps Member Leadership
University Partner Program and Relationship Management (50%)
- Develop deep relationships with programmatic leads (Deans, professors, advisors) at our current University Partners including as well as any future University Partners.
- Understand University Partner program requirements and teaching/learning scope and sequences as well as partner with our University Partners to maximize the corps member experience through coursework and other University Partner requirements such as: setting annual goals with partners for member satisfaction/experience, attending classes, shadowing advisors, etc.
- Facilitate data sharing and improvement planning with University Partner related to the corps member experience and learning progress including sharing our corps member survey outcomes to the University Partner
- Partner with Manager, Licensure & Onboarding to ensure strong University Partnerships
- Coordinate with Corps Experience team leads and coaches on understanding University Partnership requirements, coursework and partnership priorities
- As needed, examine and evaluate the success of each University Partnership year over year and, if contracts are up for renewal, lead the process to either renew the partnership contract or develop and lead the plan to create an RFP process to secure new partners.
- For any new university partnerships, work closely with the university to design and prepare for launch with corps members.
Corps Member Development, Design, and Strategy (25%)
- Partner with MD, First Year Corps Member Leadership (MD, 1CM) to set vision for corps member learning, based on University Partner learning, 1CM coaching priorities, and best practices in teacher-leader development.
- Design the learning milestones, sessions and experiences all 1CMs must progress through in their first year (Strong Start, learning tracks, etc.)
- Facilitate Corps Member professional development sessions through the course of the year
- Recruit and hire all seasonal 1CM Content Coaches for 1CMs (Content Coaches are experienced teachers who work with a specific content area to facilitate group coaching experiences by teacher content area including Diverse Learning, Elementary, Secondary English Language Arts, Secondary STEM, etc.)
- Manage seasonal 1CM Content Coaches throughout the year, including observing, supporting, coaching, and developing them to design/tailor and facilitate strong CM learning experiences.
- Partner with MD, 1CM and MD, 2CM to set, execute, and manage year-long Academic Growth (quantitative student achievement) and personal growth (student survey) outcomes strategy
Summer Training Design (15%)
- Partner with the MD, Summer Training and Corps Experience Directors to identify the focus areas for any programmatic redesign or revisions for Summer Training 2019, including assessing Summer Training 2018’s outcomes, progress, and efficacy
- Facilitate all Summer Training University Partner coordination to ensure a strong bridge between CM learning and CM university coursework
- Lead design and/or facilitation of some segment (not all segments) of development for summer staff training (examples: DEI curriculum, Classroom culture curriculum, student curriculum, or even content curriculum for CMs)
Collective Responsibility Regional Projects (10% of time)
- Fulfill foundational responsibilities that allow our region to do our work, make decisions, grow as professionals, and strengthen our team culture, including but not limited to attending regional meetings, operating with our Core Values and commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusiveness, completing our performance management cycle, and upholding our data management, office operations, and fiscal responsibilities
- Make a direct impact on the organizational mission of enlisting, developing and mobilizing leaders to strengthen the movement for educational equity by participating in selection (6-10 days total plus preparation and close out time), matriculation (up to six windows across the year), regional recruitment activity, member facing events (including Leadership Summits and Summer Training), our alumni giving campaign, alumni survey, and at least one regional or national committee/working group, and other initiatives that impact our members and partners
- 4-7+ years of previous professional experience
- Knowledge of Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) practices, including creating an inclusive and engaged classroom culture, and demonstrated ability to design culturally-responsive teaching programming and experiencecoaching teacher-coaches in CRT
- Knowledge of best practices in adult learning and experience in session design and facilitation highly preferred. Experience leading teacher development required; experience across a variety of grade levels and contents preferred
- Previous experience managing high stakes relationships or experience leading program evaluation processes highly preferred

Work Demands
- Occasional evenings and weekends are required
- Ability to travel throughout the Chicago-Northwest Indiana area to attend classroom observations and in-person meetings with CMs and University Partners
- Limited overnight travel required to attend Teach For America conferences (expenses paid for by Teach For America)
