NRDC is seeking three (3) summer interns to work with the E2 team in our offices in New York City, Chicago and San Francisco.
Interns will work with E2 staff in these offices to develop and execute a program to advance current clean energy initiatives and policies in their regions and expand and amplify business voices in support of these initiatives under E2’s “Clean Jobs Count” campaign.
These full-time, paid internships will run from June 4, 2018 - August 10, 2018.
Interns also will receive a one-year membership in E2’s Emerging Leaders program, which comes with the full benefits of E2 membership, including networking, advocacy, mentoring and other opportunities.
- Chicago Office: The intern will work with E2 staff and the NextGrid Core Project Team in Chicago to identify, engage and amplify positive stories of IL businesses and emerging technologies related to the NextGrid initiatives, with an emphasis on companies and technologies that will allow Distributed Energy Resources (DER)(e.g. wind, solar, EE, DR, electric cars, etc.) to be better integrated into the modern grid. The intern will not be engaged in E2’s or NRDC’s work regarding specific utilities in the Midwest.
- San Francisco Office: The intern will work with E2 staff in California to identify, engage and amplify stories of CA businesses and emerging technologies related to the legislative and regulatory initiatives to expand the California Independent Service Operator (Cal ISO), with an emphasis on DER businesses. Intern also will support other E2 clean energy initiatives, including legislation to pass 100 percent renewable portfolio standard and to amplify business voices as part of the Global Climate Summit in September in San Francisco.
- New York City Office: The intern will work with E2 staff in New York City to identify, engage and amplify stories of businesses and emerging technologies that are involved in smart grid initiatives in both New York and New England. Intern also will help with initiatives focusing on offshore wind expansion, energy efficiency and expanding the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) to the transportation sector.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Research and gather data on clean energy companies to be used for advocacy and the development of chapter activities;
- Help coordinate regular communications with E2 members in the region through social media and email newsletters;
- Help plan and execute E2 events for members and affiliates;
- Assist E2 staff with various research and projects.
- Some travel may be required.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with the capability to handle multiple tasks, work well under pressure and be detail-oriented;
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team;
- Strong interest in natural resources conservation, advocacy and enthusiasm for NRDC and E2’s mission;
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint);
- Current Junior and Senior Undergrads or Graduate students enrolled in an accredited university/college program.
