Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) is a collaborative model of medical education and care management that empowers clinicians everywhere to provide better care to more people. Project ECHO uses video conferencing technology to link inter-disciplinary specialist teams with multiple front-line clinicians. The Project ECHO "Hub" in Chicago is the coordinating center for the "teleECHO" learning series, each of which focuses on a particular topic and type of participant, such as primary care physicians, with multiple learning participants serving as the "Spokes" in the learning model. Experts join the Hub to mentor and share their expertise across a virtual network of Spokes via case-based learning, enabling clinicians to treat patients with complex conditions. The Alzheimer's Association will use Project ECHO for training on dementia detection and care.

The Associate Director, Project ECHO manages the development and operations of the Alzheimer's Association's Project ECHO collaborative learning networks, including coordination of program initiatives and deliverables and serving as a lead facilitator for both pilot ECHO series.

This is a fully benefited, at-will, grant-funded position through June, 2019 with potential for longer employment.

This position will be located in Chicago, IL and reports to the Senior Director, Health Systems

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provides planning, oversight, and direction of adapting the ECHO Model for use in dementia.
  • Facilitates the live, interactive teleECHO learning sessions and training activities, to ensure that Spoke participant learning and improvement needs are met through the ECHO Model.
  • Ensures that the "all teach, all learn" concept of ECHO is achieved as Spoke participants build and share their expertise in the group.
  • Manages the diverse team of outside clinical and industry experts and Alzheimer's Association staff to design and operate Project ECHO learning collaboratives.
  • Manages the development, implementation, and maintenance of project objectives and short and long-range plans.
  • Collaborates with project team to identify project goals and objectives.
  • Manages the working relationships between project team, administration, and principal stakeholders.
  • Oversees the day-to-day coordination of the ECHO "Hub" team and serves as the primary point of contact.
  • Works with the Hub team and staff to create capacity building and quality improvement strategies (teleECHO clinics and training programs), based on the needs of Spokes and/or stakeholders.
  • Directs guidance and coaching in the implementation of teleECHO clinics.
  • Trains and assists Spoke participants in adapting/replicating the ECHO Model.
  • Assists with the development of tracking and evaluation programs to assist in the accomplishment of established project goals and objectives.
  • Collaborates with Hub team members on ECHO educational curriculum/materials.
  • Provides administrative and operational support for Hub team and Spoke participants
  • Coordinates the development, production and distribution of promotional plans and materials and teleECHO clinic course materials and schedules.
  • Facilitates delivery of clinical/training content using a designated communication vehicle.
  • Executes surveys and feasibility studies for policy formation and improvement of services.
  • Serves as liaison between Hub facilitators and Spoke participants.
  • Coordinates instructional course activities, which may include the logistics for distance delivery technologies.
  • Facilitates and enhances day-to-day operating relations with Spoke site coordinators and other stakeholders.
  • Oversees the CME process during the series to ensure that learners receive credit and data are reported back to the appropriate accreditation bodies.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in social work, public health, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5-7 years of experience in project management, health-related programs, training programs or similar experience, including experience with project planning, activity tracking, outcomes evaluation and reporting.
  • Exceptional ability in managing diverse teams to collaborate on successful project design and implementation, preferably with experience leading teams with high levels of skill and expertise.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve ambiguities and divergent points of view to arrive at effective solutions.
  • Experience in working with health care providers preferred.
  • Experience in instructional design and training implementation for adult learning  preferred.
  • Experience interacting with internal and external stakeholders on high visibility projects is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, team-building and group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and establish priorities aligned with program goals and timelines.
  • Highly efficient in time management and ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project; familiarity or ability to quickly learn Google Docs. Drive.
  • Experience in tracking and reporting program activities and data.
  • Ability to manage, analyze and summarize data for program evaluation and reporting.
  • Some air travel may be needed for  training.
