The Associate Director, Graphic Design will conceptualize, design and execute creative solutions that consistently and effectively communicate the Alzheimer's Association's brand identity, positioning and messaging primarily through strategic print and digital communications. This strong conceptual thinker will have a wide range of design capabilities and experience, with a solid background in visual communications and print. Experience in digital, photography, video is preferred.

This position reports to the Sr. Associate Director, Marketing and is based at the Association's Home Office in downtown Chicago, IL.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Designs print collateral for organization-wide initiatives (Signature Events, Programs and Services, Research, Public Policy and others, as needed).
  • Designs and updates products and collateral for Shop for the Cause e-commerce website.
  • Provides design support to Chapters across the country and internal clients.
  • Manages high volume of requests for design support from Chapters and internal clients.
  • Actively manages capacity and workload of the design team, prioritizing and delegating projects accordingly. Maintains ongoing communications and provides updates throughout the creative work cycle, ensuring that marketing team is informed of design progress.
  • Collaborates with strategic communications team, as well as project managers to develop creative concepts and executions of assigned requests.
  • Regularly reviews creative and project briefs and recommend a range of creative solutions.
  • Communicates design knowledge and provide strong strategic rationale as needed.
  • Consistently demonstrates mastery of proven design principles through creative concepts that satisfy and surpass creative brief objectives.
  • Provides accurate time estimates to project manager and deliver design assets consistent with agreed upon timing.
  • Maintains and manages archiving and job tracking system for design projects.
  • Effectively checks and approves creative produced by direct report(s).
  • Supervises work of direct report(s), including providing detailed direction, coaching and mentorship.
  • Assists in making presentations to internal clients, as needed.
  • Other projects as assigned.
Educational Background: 
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field
Skills/Experience: 
  • Minimum of 5-7 years design experience in an in-house marketing department or agency setting.
  • 1+  years in a supervisory role preferred 
  • Strong creative, organizational, problem-solving and time-management skills
  • Collaborative,  and team-oriented and able to work effectively across groups through respect, knowledge and ability to persuade and influence
  • Strategic and creative while still detail-oriented. Clear thinker and communicator
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and provide marketable solutions in conceiving, developing, and producing tactics
  • Must be able to produce new and fresh creative concepts while also adhering to established brand and style guides
  • Mastery of conceptual skills, high level understanding of design, layout and typography.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide and receive concise creative direction
  • Excellent communication skills and well-practiced client service
  • Expert proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe PhotoShop. Familiarity with Google platform as well as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • Comprehensive computer photo-retouching and image development skills
  • Understanding of print production process, knowledge of production techniques
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed for the job
