The Associate Director, Diversity Outreach & Community Engagement will implement plans to engage diverse communities and expand the reach of volunteer-led Care & Support programs to historically underserved populations. In support of the Association’s diversity and inclusion strategy, the position supports chapters to engage diverse volunteers for Care & Support programs and activate national volunteer partner relationships at the local level. This role provides consultation and coaching to chapter program staff in support of diversity outreach and community engagement. The position will support communication and training events for chapter staff partners and diverse volunteers nationwide. 

This position reports to the Director, Volunteer Programs and can be based at the Home Office in downtown Chicago, IL or remotely within the lower 48 states of the US. Travel up to 15% is required. 

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Leads creation of community programs, resources and campaigns designed to increase the Association’s engagement with diverse populations. 
  • Develops training curricula for staff and volunteers and leads training to assure strategic outcomes are achieved.
  • Teaches and supports local staff to manage relationships with diverse organizations to ensure engagement on specific program deliverables.
  • Supports chapter staff engagement in the Volunteer Management Software system and Association’s CRM to ensure that the initiatives meet the overall objectives of the organization.
  • Additional duties as assigned. 
Educational Background: 
Bachelor’s degree in public health, communications, or related field. 
Skills/Experience: 
  • 5-7 years’ demonstrated success creating, managing and implementing diversity outreach programs within a voluntary health organization or similar setting.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) ability preferred.
  • Demonstrated success creating, managing and implementing diversity outreach programs within a voluntary health organization or similar setting
  • Superior verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, to interface with all levels of staff and leadership
  • Excellent presentation and training skills including the ability to engage diverse audiences with credibility. 
  • Demonstrated experience creating tools to communicate process, strategy, and status
  • Effective time management skills to meet deadlines and capacity to multitask and shift priorities in a changing environment
  • Strong project management skills to balance multiple tasks and adjust work plan to accommodate opportunities to collaborate on program team issues
  • Strategic thinker able to determine long-term implications of decisions 
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and propose solutions which support the Association’s mission and vision
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed for the job
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 15%. Most travel will include overnight trips.
