General Summary

The Alzheimer's Association is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, organized and highly-motivated individual to serve in the role of Associate Director, Science Liaison and Writer for Medical and Scientific Relations.  This role will oversee daily operations in interfacing Medical and Scientific Relations with other departments and divisions in developing and provide scientific data, proposals, and translating scientific information into language for the general public.

Essential Job Functions

Med Sci Requests - Process Management

  • Manage online request system and effectively process all internal and external requests for Med Sci travel, teleconferences, and grants and science-related information
  • Create and manage all tracking/metrics for all Med Sci travel by Director, Chapter, Region etc.
Grants Communication - Process Management
  • Create and provide updated funding slates after each program to share with Development and Public Relations
  • Provide annual reports for all Chapters listing active grants in their to facilitate outreach
  • Provide customized grants-related reports as requested from Development and Chapters
  • Create annual research portfolio profile and annual grants support documents
Abstracts/Reports Translation - Process Management
  • Manage the tracking of progress reports for all sponsored grants and science initiatives (due dates, submission
  • Manage process for translation/editing and posting all abstracts to public website
  • Responsible for the posting of all abstracts and reports shared web database Proposal Central
  • Oversee updates of public website and Insite with annual grants information (portfolio, grants by category, state, etc.)
Manage Team of Contracted Science Writers
  • Identify, interview, negotiate rates and hire new contracted science/medical writers
  • Assign grants and donor-related project work to science writers with direction on content
  • Manage and track all project deadlines and contractor invoices
  • Provide guidance, content editing and feedback on all project work completed by science writers
Science Writing/Editing - for General Audience (Donors, Chapters, Public)
Provide scientific writing and/or content editing for:
  • All funded award abstracts translations
  • All sponsored grant progress reports
  • Annual donor summary/impact reports
  • Bi-Annual research updates for scientific initiatives
  • Special Projects
  • Scientific Summaries for Chapters and PR
  • Research Resources and FAQs for Chapters and Development
Science Writing/Editing - for Technical Audience (Researchers, Clinicians)
  • Provide scientific writing, content editing and/or support for conferences and teleconference

Minimum Requirements

  • Advanced degree in hard science discipline, PhD Neuroscience preferred
  • Minimum 5 years medical/science writing experience in academic, medical or healthcare setting
  • Experience in developing scientific content for general  and technical audiences
  • Experience in working with academic and clinical thought leaders in the field of dementia
  • Must have excellent organizational skills, adapt to change and effectively meet deadlines
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Some evening and weekend hours may be required. Ability to travel as needed (approximately 15%)
