We are seeking an experienced leader to provide high quality programming for youth and teens during the school year (Youth Sports, Adventure Guides, Family events,  & Leaders clubs), and lend support to School age childcare.  During the summer oversee a facility based day camp with approximately 140 campers each week.

 The Cheshire Community YMCA has an operating budget of $2.5 million and serves approximately 2,800 members. Our main facility is located in 12,000 square feet of leased space which primarily houses our Health & Wellness Center and Learning Center.  The majority of our youth sports and teen programs are offered off site at several of our conveniently located schools.

 This position is a full time exempt position and does require some evening and weekend hours. Under the direct supervision of the Senior Director of Youth Development, the Program Director will develop, implement, and administer diverse and dynamic programs. This individual is responsible for creating, developing, and implementing programs that meet the needs of the members and program participants, as well as, the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of all program staff.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Director of Camp Quinnipiac: Recruit, hire, train, supervise and work with staff to plan and develop a successful Camp program.  Plan and implement activities, trips and special events for camp.  Prepare all camp related information and promotion before and during the camp season.  Work with the Director of Membership Services to ensure a smooth registration process is in place.  Keep camp well maintained and safe and comply with the standards set by the State of Connecticut licensing.  Develop and monitor the camp budget and be responsible for all related finances of the camp program.  Responsible for all aspects of camp transportation and off site facility use (pool use).  Work in conjunction with the Department of Education and school related staff to coordinate yearly facility use and assignments
  •   Supervision of all youth programs:  Responsible for the administration of all youth and family related programs (sports, karate, dance and special family events).  Duties will include program development and evaluation, staff hiring, training and supervision.  Responsible for program promotion, budget development, monitoring, and volunteer recruitment and training
  • Supervise and coordinate all Teen programs.  Develop diverse programs that will appeal to the needs of teens in our community. Perform all related administrative duties related to this program area.  Programs will include but not limited to: Leaders Club (Dodd & High School) and community service projects
  • Work with YMCA Camp Sloper Program Director to promote, manage and supervise the YMCA Adventure Guides program.  Attend all monthly meetings and special events, acting in a liaison role with the parent volunteer leadership.  Work independently with the school systems to promote the programs
  • Provide program support to the School age childcare programs during the school year
  • Provide leadership to promote the Annual Support Campaign.  Work with the Branch Executive Director in “Friend” and fundraising efforts to support teen and camp programs
  • Complete all strategic plan objectives as agreed upon
Educational Background: 
Qualified candidate should possess a four year college degree in sports/recreation or physical education.
Skills/Experience: 

They should also have a YMCA program background, express excellent communication/presentation skills, have strong problem solving skills, show superior judgment, and have 2-3 years of program management experience in camp, youth sports, teen programs and family programming.

  •  Be at least 21 years of age
  • Programming experience with children
  • Experience in outdoor education and adventure programming
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Able to effectively handle conflict situations with children and adults
Compensation/Benefits: 

Salary: $40,000.00
