The Staff Accountant will have full responsibility for the corporate general ledger, financial reporting, and other assigned financial projects.  

Areas of Responsibility: 

ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Accountable for completion of assigned goals as measured by the number of people served, cause driven measures, service satisfaction scores, operating results, and supervisor evaluation of assigned duties.

Additional driver’s license check, CPS, criminal background check, alcohol, and/or drug testing may be required to be processed in the future in order to meet and/or maintain the requirements of this position. 
  • Essential Functions
  • Prepares journal entries for Association
  • Enters and post all financial transactions in accounting software
  • Monitors daily operating bank account activity
  • Reconciles Association bank accounts
  • Maintains and reconciles subsidiary records to general ledger account balances
  • Researches and resolves financial issues
  • Reviews and audits Association financial records
  • Generates and distributes financial statements and related supplemental reports
  • Maintains and ensures completeness of filing system for original source documentation
  • Serves as liaison for all corporate and center staff related to reports, postings, balances, and other financial matters
  • Assists center staff in understanding and maintaining business and finance related procedures throughout the Association
  • Understands internal controls and how they apply to our Association and ensure internal controls are adhered to. Reports any suspected irregularities to supervisor
  • Assists in the conversion of the internal financial statements to GAAP
  • Processes credit card and EFT refunds and bounced checks
  • Serves as backup for the preparation and deposit of all monetary receipts for corporate office
  • Assists in financial projects that may occur from time to time, such as annual audits and computer conversions
  • Assists in other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

Educational Background: 
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
Skills/Experience: 
  • Preferred 2 years of accounting experience
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Word and Excel
  • Must have the ability to quickly learn and utilize YMCA proprietary software
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with co-workers at all levels of technical knowledge
  • Must be organized and able to focus on details and accuracy
  • Must possess high attention to detail
  • Must protect organization by keeping information confidential
  • Must be able to set priorities and manage multiple concurrent tasks

  • Requires a person of maturity, good judgment and professionalism, who can operate with a minimum of guidance from the Director of Accounting
  • Requires ability to exercise appropriate independent judgment and to assess facts and issues.

Salary: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00
