Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) provides leadership, vision, and direction to all staff in areas of human capital/talent and knowledge management, employer branding initiatives, staff recruitment and retention, onboarding, performance management, career development, succession planning, leadership development, diversity and inclusion and program development. The CSO is responsible for the advancement of the YMCA’s vision, mission and leadership skills for our youth, improving our communities’ health and well-being through restorative/maintenance health programs. Additionally, shall assist the CEO in strategic projects, cultivating new alliance partners, strategic planning/implementation, advocacy/public policy, volunteer development, culture and engagement, and innovation.

- Administers all aspects of the position in a manner that embodies and models the YMCA character values of honesty, caring, responsibility, faith and respect.
- Recruits and provides leadership for senior leadership assignments and the related support personnel including the VP of Human Resources, VP of Youth Development, Association Director of Health and Wellness, Program Leadership Cabinet/Leadership Alliance and other corporate staff as assigned.
- Recruits and works collaboratively with Center Executives for the selection of all related Family Center Program, Health and Wellness, and Youth Development Directors.
- Orients, trains, supervises, evaluates and recognizes assigned leadership and support staff to achieve Association objectives through talent and knowledge management.
- Manages and maintains strong fiscal management in all related areas.
- Provides leadership for the Youth Development Advisory and Health Advisory Committees.
- Meets regularly with Center Executives and District Vice President(s) to maintain spirit of cooperation, assistance and support among operating units of the Association, and to access management insight and leadership for operational problems and issues.
- Fosters a collaborative, alliance-building style between Centers and Corporate staff.
- Maintains high staff morale, staff culture & engagement, and low turnover.
- Monitors key indices of Center Executive performance in related areas to assure compliance with Association goals and policies; anticipates in a timely way to initiate control of outcomes on critical issues in each of the foregoing areas.
- Serves as a member of the CEO’s Cabinet.
- Participates and advises as appropriate in organizational development and problem-solving with the C-Suite staff team/Sr. Leadership.
- Meets with Center Boards to provide support and consultation as needed.
- Maintains and analyzes statistics in related areas.
- Provides comprehensive leadership for the Association’s Leadership Development Program including comprehensive leadership for staff training for all Y USA certifications and program-related staff.
- Provides comprehensive leadership for all Program Development activities of the Association.
- Provides leadership and guidance for all Association Leadership Alliance Teams that relate to Program and Leadership Development.
- Provides comprehensive leadership and supervision for Association’s Diversity and Inclusion Plan.
- In consultation with the CEO, collaborates with the Association’s Diversity and Inclusion initiatives.
- Assists in the planning, development and expansion of strategic projects, cultivating new alliance partners, public policy, and advocacy.
- Minimum ten years of progressively responsible experience in YMCA operations management and volunteer relations skills.
- Must possess or acquire within three years of onset of service YMCA Organizational Leader Certification.
- Must possess breadth of knowledge and experience gained through managerial positions and have had successful experience as a Center Executive, District VP or similar position.
- Position requires a person of maturity and good judgment, who can operate with a minimum of guidance from the CEO.
- Must have the ability to work at and manage several major undertakings within the same time frame and be able to exercise appropriate independent judgment.
- Requires ability to problem-solve, to assess facts and issues, and make non-routine decisions regarding day-to-day operational problems and issues.
- Must be able to work with abstract and concrete concepts, read and analyze complex documents/financial information and be able to define problems, gather data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and direct the work of others.
- Must have mastery of budgeting, program costing and revenue/expense management.
- Requires effective team-building and team-leadership skills. Must maintain cooperative, functional relationships with Association Senior Leadership team and with subordinates.
- Must remain calm, objective and respectful in potentially stressful situations, such as operational crisis management, volunteer or member complaints/confrontations.
- Must maintain positive, energetic attitude toward YMCA work, goals and values.
- Must have competencies in recruiting, motivating, evaluating, training and supervising leadership staff for superior quality service by the YMCA, and have competencies in planning, delegating, monitoring and evaluating operational results.
- Must have superior oral and written communication and negotiation skills to respond effectively to a wide variety of constituencies, including staff, volunteers, vendors, community leaders, etc.
- Must possess valid vehicle operator’s license.

Salary: $130,000.00 - $150,000.00
