The GIS Technician performs GIS mapping and analysis support to Conservancy staff.
The GIS Technician performs GIS data management and analysis, and produces maps and/or other graphic products and reports for a variety of conservation purposes.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Work and communicate effectively with a diverse group of people, including scientists, preserve staff and others, providing and obtaining needed information.
- Resolve routine issues independently.
- Manage, maintain and populate spatial databases and create maps from spatial data.
Educational Background:
Associates Degree in natural resources; environmental studies, geography or equivalent combination of education
Skills/Experience:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 6 months’ experience.
- Experience managing and prioritizing tasks from multiple sources.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-language skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
- Experience using Esri’s suite of GIS tools (primarily ArcGIS Desktop) for cartography and analysis.
- Experience automating repetitive workflows using scripting tools in GIS (e.g. Python).
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and web browsers.
- Communicating clearly via written, spoken and graphical means.
- Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment.
- Excellent organizational skills.
Compensation/Benefits:
- $18.00 per hour; around 32 hours/week, approximately 10-11 weeks.
