The Early Learning Center Director, supports a team of dedicated early learning professionals, ensuring the education, care, and development of children from six weeks of age through pre-K. Owning the center and fostering a culture of empowerment, accountability, and support, while developing and implementing policies, procedures, and curriculum designed to meet the needs of children and parents are all critical components to being successful. Stepping into this role is a unique opportunity to be involved in the genesis of an early learning program. A passion for child development, staff support, and relationship building will drive success for staff, parents, and children.  This position's salary range starts at $48,000/annually.

Areas of Responsibility: 
  • Provides overall leadership and support to the Piedmont Family YMCA Early Learning Center, located at the Jefferson School City Center.
  • Through the development of the staff team, ensures the development and delivery of high-quality programs and activities that meet the needs of enrolled children and their families.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, evaluates, and develops, teachers, staff, and volunteers.
  • Develops and implements strategies to evaluate, support, and motivate staff to achieve their goals.
  • Develops, manages, and controls the Center budget.
  •  Ensures that program fees from parents, DSS, and other funding sources are collected promptly.
  • Ensures that all required documentation is collected and submitted to the Department of Social Services subsidy program and the USDA food program per applicable policies and procedures.
  • Assures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
  • Ensures compliance with all Virginia State Licensing requirements and maintains a good working relationship with licensing staff.
  • Assists in the identification and submission of grants. Once received, ensures that the Center meets all grant requirements. 
  • Ensures that the Center facilities and equipment are maintained in a clean, safe, and operable condition.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with parents, ensuring open communication.
  •  Establishes and maintains collaborations with community organizations.
  • Participates in the annual fundraising campaign as assigned.
  • Maintains proper records/department files.
  • Organizes special events for children, parents, and the community.
  • Promotes the Center through marketing and outreach efforts.
  • Develops, measures, evaluates, and reports program outcomes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills/Experience: 
  • Must meet qualifications for a Center Director as outlined in the Virginia Standards for Licensed Child Care Programs.
  • Program management experience related to youth development required.  Experience in programs that provide care to infants preferred.
  • Experience successfully leading staff teams.
  • Within 30-days, completion of Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
