This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Develops, organizes and implements high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs lifeguards as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
- Assists the Aquatics Director in monitoring daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
- Conducts and ensures proper maintenance of pools. Secures and schedules pool facilities. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
- Serves as head lifeguard, with the remaining hours are spent doing various administrative tasks and teaching swim lessons.
- Assists the Aquatics Director with swim lessons.
- Assists the Aquatics Director with Safety Around Water program.
- Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
- Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
- Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent preferred.
Skills/Experience:
- One to two years related experience preferred; for example, as a head lifeguard or Aquatics Coordinator
- Minimum age requirement of 21 years old.
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent required
- Requirements within 30 days of hire include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Compensation/Benefits:
Salary: $25,000.00 - $28,000.00
