This AmeriCorps position serves with The Nature Conservancy over an 11-month period to advance our work in improving private and public lands, providing education and training in stewardship and environmental practices, and growing our volunteer support. S/he will be responsible for a variety of operations activities in support of Virginia’s volunteer program goals. This includes increasing opportunities for volunteering by developing partnerships for volunteer engagement in urban locations, coordinating volunteers for those partnerships, and connecting the Conservancy with underserved communities.

The Volunteer Program Coordinator will be responsible for performing multiple administrative functions related to the assigned program.
- Scheduling and coordinating logistics for special events and/or meetings;
- May process forms and prepare reports regarding the volunteer program;
- Coordinate projects with several variables, setting realistic deadlines and managing a timeline;
- May assist in the development of program materials and correspondence;
- Purchase equipment and supplies as provided for in budget; may assist with budget preparation and monitoring;
- Make day-to-day decisions within the scope of service assignments;
- Serves independently without requiring detailed management review of general service;
- Recruit, manage, train and retain volunteers to serve alongside TNC staff and at TNC events;
- Review and implement TNC policies and procedures regarding volunteer programs including training TNC staff;
- Create conservation and stewardship activities with partners that address needs and schedules of underserved, diverse communities;
- Conduct outreach activities to engage diverse individuals and organizations in conservation activities.
- Travel to and from preserves, meetings and events which are essential to the service of this position.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Coordinate projects and set priorities;
- Perform duties under general supervision and established guidelines;
- Adapt or modify processes in response to changing circumstances;
- Make day-to-day decisions within the scope of service assignments and prioritize service independently;
- Identify routine problems and utilize existing resources for resolution, referring difficult questions and problems to supervisor;
- Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information;
- Financial responsibility may include purchasing, processing invoices, contracting with vendors, and assisting with budget tracking;
- Serve as a team member for assigned projects;
- Service environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain;
- Willingness and ability to travel within the geography assigned.
- U.S. Citizen, U.S. National or Lawful Permanent Resident;
- Must be at least 18 years of age;
- Satisfy the National Service Criminal History check eligibility criteria;
- Experience with written and verbal communication skills;
- Experience with MS Office;
- Commitment to complete 11 months as AmeriCorps member;
- Experince with organizational skills
- Valid driver’s license.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experiences are appreciated.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Interest in the mission and activities of The Nature Conservancy.
- Ability to write and edit written materials for use with program communications and special events.
- Database skills, including managing and tracking data, and producing reports.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to follow instructions from colleagues;
- Ability to manage diverse activities to meet deadlines;
