Under the direction of the Associate Director of Membership, the Senior Director of Membership will lead a team of directors, leads and front-line staff to ensure the best-in-class execution of the membership department. The Senior Director of Membership is responsible for the implementation of ongoing membership strategies and acquisition activities, both internal and external. The position provides direction, measurement and accountability to branch membership sales and household growth. Responsibilities include: achieving sales targets by monitoring KPI’s, prospect follow up, booking appointments, giving tours and selling memberships according to the Y’s sales guidelines. The Senior Director will directly supervise the Member Experience Director and Membership Sales Director and indirectly provide leadership to all Membership staff. As a member of the branch senior leadership team, the Senior Director of Membership will create and embrace a diverse and inclusive YMCA community to grow our local impact, activate our global network and multiply our mission. This position will work in collaboration with regional program leadership to ensure program quality and consistency across the Association.
Programmatic Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day functions of assigned areas, providing leadership and support to the department.
- Provide strategic direction to the Membership Department in collaboration with the Healthy Living Department(s) to create a cohesive and consistent member experience.
- Direct and monitor strategies to ensure monthly and annual goals are met, including prospecting, tours, sales, cancellations, retention, participation targets, penetration rates and engagement.
- Ensure alignment with Regional and Association strategies, structure and quality standards, that drive growth of primary business lines.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community and corporate partners with a focus on corporate membership agreements, off-site fitness programs and community health.
- Develop and lead strategies to ensure members and/or program participants connect with each other and the YMCA.
- Partner with marketing and communications department to ensure effective promotion and visibility of all program areas.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Lead through the YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith. Model relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Lead direct reports as an interdependent and unified Member Experience team.
- Recruit, hire, train and supervise a highly-skilled and trained team of full-time and part-time servant leaders.
- Utilize Association tools and standards in completing and administering performance evaluations and individual development plans.
- Plan and organize staff meetings to ensure consistent communications, directions and accountability.
- Manage biweekly payroll.
Operational Responsibilities
- Work symbiotically with Associate Director and directors to develop, implement and manage operating plans that promote program and membership growth for the YMCA.
- Develop and manage annual budget. Demonstrate sound fiscal management skills.
- Ensure a culture of inclusion that builds and celebrates diversity within the Y and our community.
- Provide leadership and support to annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/boards as assigned.
- Five years supervisory experience in a sales and/or membership-focused leadership role with demonstrated success in leading membership and program growth.
- Demonstrated experience in recruiting, hiring, training and development of volunteers and staff.
- YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader certification or ability to attain certification within three years of hire.
- Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively work/interact with diverse populations.
- Computer literate. Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook and database management.
- High ethical standards and possess strong personal and professional integrity.
- Three years of experience working with diverse communities with demonstrated ability to connect and communicate in a welcoming and inclusive manner.
- Ability to successfully obtain certification in CPR/AED and First Aid.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work in excess of a 40-hour week with irregular work hours.
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor), while maintaining alertness for extended periods of time.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
- Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
- Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
- Ability to view/enter data for long periods of time.
Salary: $55,000.00 - $60,000.00
