The Executive Director, under the direction of the Senior Operational Vice President and consistent with the YMCA’s Christian mission, is responsible for the management of all branch operations including staff and volunteer development, strategic planning and financial development. The Executive Director must maintain a culture of integrity, change capacity, determination, courage, teamwork, inclusivity and appreciation and promote the values of honesty, respect, responsibility, caring and faith.

Areas of Responsibility: 

Staff Development

  • Lead and motivate staff through a strategic vision inspired by CEO.
  • Develop and monitor specific, measurable, attainable goals with all staff:
  • Develop strategic goals and objectives along with budget preparation timeline.
  • Monitor goals monthly and adjust accordingly.

Evaluate staff achievement and provide learning opportunities to strengthen areas for improvement. Work with direct reports to create individual development plans and insure they are doing the same for their staff. Understand and consistently administer the branch and Association policies and procedures. Provide leadership to the various Branch Staff teams in planning branch growth, direction, facility development and budget.

Volunteer and Financial Development

  • Provide strategic leadership to the Board of Managers and Financial Development Director that result in successful annual fundraising campaigns and/or capital campaign.
  • Assist direct reports in successful volunteer committee development.
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction to Board Development activities including: Recruitment, Orientation and Training of all Board Members, Strategic Planning, Board Meetings & Retreats, Board Development Committee meetings, and Executive Committee.
  • Accept leadership roles in areas where necessary.

Membership/Program Development

  • Assist directors in creating a seamless delivery of membership and programs to all people connected to the assigned service area.
  • Provide leadership to a Y community as a member of a designated Program Leadership Team (PLT), as assigned.
  • Provide support, communication and operational effectiveness to implement association strategies and initiatives.
  • Increase member and program retention by collaborating with Membership, Program and Marketing teams in effective implementation of planned programs, services and campaigns.
  • Develop and foster collaborations/partnerships to expand programs in new service areas.

Fiscal Management

  • Exemplify strong fiscal stewardship through the development and monitoring of annual budgets in assigned areas:
  • Monthly monitoring through variance reports and follow-up.
  • Quarterly updates with forecasting year end finish.

Identify new revenue streams through program development, innovation and grant opportunities. Prepare the annual income and expense budget with ultimate approval by Board of Directors. Operate within, administer and achieve the approved annual budget.

Skills/Experience: 
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related work experience with a minimum of 7 years experience in management and supervision with highly developed organizational skills and proven success in program development and staff development of full-time, professional staff.
  • Experience with budgetary responsibility of $1.5 million or greater, preferred.
  • A proven track record of budgetary and/or program budgetary responsibility and sound fiscal management skills.
  • Proven ability to have initiative, good judgment and ability to make decisions independently.
  • Strong public relations skills with excellent written and oral presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop and/or strengthen community relationships and partnerships.
  • Successful experience interacting with Board and financial development/fundraising activities.
  • Ability to work in a matrixed structure requiring a spirit of collaboration and flexibility.
  • YMCA Multi-Team Leader Leadership Certification, or ability to work towards achieving certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Ability to work in a matrixed structure requiring a spirit of collaboration and flexibility.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn organization specific applications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work a 40-hour week with irregular work hours.
  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
  • Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
  • Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
  • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
